Basically, whenever I try to set the multiplier above 16x in the BIOS, this doesn't seem to be having any effect in Windows. When I load CPU-Z, it displays that the multiplier is still set at 16x and the core speed is 3200mhz (stock). However when I go back to the BIOS, it has appeared to have saved the changes, as it is showing the raised value for the multiplier. This means that the only way I can achieve any kind of overclock is by raising the bus speed. Seeing as this cpu should have an unlocked multiplier, I'm a bit stumped. Can anyone shed any light? Cheers.
FSB is your best bet. Multiplier I have never used to OC. What you do want to ensure is your syncing, that is more vital then the clock speeds that you can get up to. A poor sync will actually make the system horribly unresponsive. I use a 3:2 ratio on my FSB/RAM. And I am able to pump the system very nicely and its very responsive. Just watch your Volts on CPU and your RAM as you may have to pump both a bit to achieve stability (if you pump your RAM up pretty high be sure you have proper cooling on them). Hope that helps.
Thanks for the response, and I can see what you're saying. But seeing as it is a black edition processor, I would still really like to get to the bottom of why I'm unable to increase the multiplier.
