A great card for its price, but ever so often i get a BSOD in xp 'driver conflict' or something, im not sure. [QSOFTAUD.SYS is what appears...]

Just wondering if anyone else has had similar problems with this card/knows what to do?
Been told that its a problem with my motherboard, pci sharing etc - tried the card in every slot still same problem. Ive had to get a new mobo neway [NF7-S v2], just finished installing that yesterday and now i just got the BSOD twice :S. Im beginning to think AC97 is not such a bad idea....

not sure to be honest, the pc i just built for my friend uses a philips sound edge card and it's using the latest drivers without a problem,

may just be a driver issue, is the driver pre-sp2? download the newest ones and see if you get anything then :)

Also, when you installed the new mobo, did you completely uninstall all old chipset drivers etc or start from scratch with a format, if not then might be a prob with residual driver conflicts . . .

  3. You could try (if you haven't already) removing the soundcard to see if that remedys anything. If that is the problem a SoundBlaster Audigy Live 24bit is about £25 on ebuyer.com. Seems strange though, try re-installing or updating the drivers first though. Hope we can help ya out m8 :)

Thanx :) - it is installed on a new drive - didnt know there were new drivers out? I was forced to download the software from phlips website last time cause i couldnt fnd the cd and i think that i still had problems :s although i shall see if there are any driver updates now...

New Audigy fer £25 :| hell, this philips cost me £25 lol!
[i did think about getting a new card - was looking at a refurbished audigy 2 on creatives website fer around £30, but i have nooooo money! :(

was convinced that things would be fine with this new mobo :( apparently it wasnt the mobo at fault lol :(

Look on the brightside, atleast you now have one kickass motherboard :D

As for the BSOD, is it a IRQ sharing conflict? If it is, have a look here

  6. I've got that mobo, it's great for a Socket A.
How important is sound to you anyway? Seen as I use the onboard sound and it's fine for me.

The NF7-S v2 doesn't use AC97 audio. It uses Soundstorm which is actually quite good. Just use the onboard, I'm pretty certain that it's better than your PCI sound card anyway.

yeah, another vote for the onboard soundstorm... its pretty damn sweet :D

i mean, loads of people were pissed that it wasnt going to be included on nf3 or 4, so it cant be all that bad...

Thanx fer the linkeh and the advice guys - however i did manage to find an updated driver fer the card - so far so good - but if it happens again then i will feed the soundedge to the pigeons... because pigeons eat..that ..kind of.....thing.

roflmfao - literally half a minute after i posted this ^ ^ ^ the comp gives me another BSOD - signing the cards death warrant. T

Manually changing IRQs looks too complicated fer an average card - ima just go with the soundstorm. Thanx all.

  11. Ya welcome mate, thats what bit-techs all about, well ,apart from other stuff lol :hehe: :hehe: .

I'm sure you'll love the onboard sound, as mushky said, it'll prolly be better than the philips pigeon-feed-deluxe card :D

Damn. Playing UT2k4 with the philips card disabled and using Soundstorm makes the game soso cutty :S i just cant win can i. Someone somewhere wants me to buy a new soundcard :( - - - unless someone can tell me that on board sound doesnt reduce gaming performance as much as i have seen, then i will go 'oh' then they will go 'oh' and then i will be happy :)

  13. ^^MMMM... Strange^^

Tried taking the old s/c out?

What speakers are you running? 5.1?

Have you got the nvidia sound drivers installed? Unloaded the Phillips ones?

I disabled the card in device manager, using nvidia drivers, philips drivers are still there incase i was gonna go back to it with minimal effort, and im using headphones. but does using onboard things like sound drop performance like this???

Hardly, but yes. Depends what else you have in your system, cpu, ram etc?

    2400 AXP
    512mb ram
    radeon 9600pro

I see a crazy drop in perfomance when using the onboard sound :S actually becomes unplayable.

  17. I have:

    Athlon XP 2600 :hehe:
    256mb Radeon 9250 :hehe: (only £30 btw)
    512mb no-name ram :hehe:

I use onboard sound and everything is OK

try removing physical card and the phillips drivers that might work. it's easy enough to re-install them

-sigh- ok just finished removing the card and put everything back to find that the game is still very cutty!! :(

that is until i changed sound preference to hardware audio and now it runs great :D

Thankyou all for your help, the Soundstorm is quite impressive - i ran away from onboard audio a long time ago having met a nasty AC97, but this isnt too shabby at all :p

Feeding of the pigeons at 05 hundred hours.
    take care all.
