Didn't know which forum this belonged it, so I threw it in general.

So I'm getting a Galaxy S3 (due here tomorrow), and looking at a decent case to protect it. I'm unsure if I should get a flip case, or a gel silicone case. Which offers the best protection, yet doesn't get in the way? I'd imagine a flip case could get in the way when taking a photo or taking a call, yet it would offer better protection for my screen...

    Any ideas guys? Much appreciated.

Silly as this sounds, I use both with my S2. At work and out and about I use the flip case and when I'm at home or not up to to much I use the gel case just to give a bit of protection.

That doesn't really answer your question does it..:duh::duh:

i always get the simple cheap silicone cases.... mine for my Moto Atrix was under a 5er

Not to bulky, dont get in the way of buttons, saved my phone a few times... what more do you want?

I bought a £1.99 GameBoy looking rubber case for my S3, fits well. Postage cost more than the case.

I stopped using cases after they became a pain in the backside to remove when plugging into car holder. Something to think about if you have a car phone holder?

This a thousand times, I just got one for my S2 after my previous hard plastic one started to chip away, felt a bit odd at the start but I absolutely love it now.

I'd stay away from silicone cases if you plan on having it in some kind of jeans pocket a lot, I used to have one for my ipod and it just trapped ridiculous amounts of dust and made retrieving the thing from my pocket very awkward, lost a tenner once due to the silicone pulling it out of my pocket and it being windy :grr:

I don't think I can be bothered with a case for my Note II. they seem to double the size and it seems to be pretty resistant to damage anyway (managed to drop in onto the gravel while getting into the car; no noticeable damage whatsoever.

I have a Samsung Galaxy SIII Protective Cover.
It's made by Samsung so the fit is perfect, it adds very little bulk and the transparent blue looks good on the blue S3 imo.

I had a Barely There case for my old S1, but I prefer this because:
    - I think the flexibility of the TPU gives more protection from impacts than the more rigid plastic of BT.
    - The case gives a decent lip around the screen so you can put the phone face down on a flat surface and the screen won't touch it.
    - It protects the ports and feels like it give more complete protection against dust and grime.

    My only provisos would be:
    - It's not as grippy in the hand as the Barely There
    - Your mileage may vary with the port flaps. I think the very slight awkwardness when plugging things in is worth it for the extra protection.

Also, it seems it's £1.99 on Amazon (via 7dayshop) at the moment. I just bought a spare :)

I personally like to splash out on a nice screen protector too (usually SGP) for complete protection.

I do kind of envy these people that have the confidence to "go naked", but even though I do look after my phone slightly obsessively I'm still far too much of a worrier to even trust in gorilla glass without a relatively cheap sacrificial layer on top of it.
