I'm asking because I have a lot going on so my head's all over the place. I'm worried I might become an ass about it. Please offer your opinion on what should be a sensible way to deal with it. The story: Little brother has phone stolen. Police close case. Get new phone for him. Buy a note 2 from the bay. Advertised as phone and battery only. No problem, that's what he had before so we have accessories for it. When it did arrive it included a super cheap Chinese charger with a thin USB cable of huge resistance (wouldn't be surprised if the charger also caught fire on first use) but that's besides the point. Phone isn't dispatched until I prompt them five days later. W/e it's the week leading up to Christmas, everyone is hectic. Phone arrives. Doesn't look like a 3 month old insurance replacement. W/e I was taking that statement with a pinch of salt when I chose to buy it. Phone IMEI doesn't match the box. I don't know how insurance phones are shipped so maybe that's her old one. Boot phone into recovery. KNOX counter has been tripped. Refurbished insurance phone maybe. Pull out S-Pen the top of button was missing. Not mentioned in listing. http://i.imgur.com/NDIIkiO.jpg Raise a case. If she has nothing to say then ask for £4 towards a "genuine" replacement off the bay. I wouldn't expect them to offer £17 to get a new one from the Samsung store when the phone itself is worth less than £150. Claimed she (assuming since "Liz") didn't know. Has one there she'll send out. Get a replacement S-Pen in the post. Not from her but from China. The colour is off and it doesn't even attempt to hide itself behind a logo because there isn't even one. At this point I somewhat feel my intelligence is being mocked. Thus Bit-Tech what do you think?
Ultimately buddy you sound like the phone isn't really what you expected, a tripped Knox counter IMO should be noted in the listing. A 3 month old insurance replacement IMO should look like new, I am guessing it does not. I would just open a case and return it, eBay will side with you as the Buyer. Oh and buying 2nd hand phones off eBay is risky as hell lol
All depends on the wording of the ad really, how the phone was described etc etc... You would expect all parts of the phone to be official including the pen unless told otherwise. Let this be a lesson of buying used phones on ebay I guess.
The proliferation of bad sellers and buyers on Ebay are the reason why I now only use it for very low value items, I cannot find elsewhere and no longer sell on Ebay.
Sounds like you've been mugged off mate, possibly by a Chinese scammer. This is why I never buy stuff on ebay worth more than £20. Bought a leather jacket last year, paid £75 was expecting the leather to be a lot thicker than it was. Seller was listed as being in Ilford turns out they weren't they were based in China. When the jacket came whilst it was wearable its not the quality I was expecting and my Dad's cat managed to tear it
Ebay just isn't what it used to be. I got two leather jackets on ebay about 5 years ago, one of them worth about £400 (based on Jackman's original "wolverine" jacket, which at first I didn't realise). I got it for a tenth of that and I still wear it regularly. The lesson I've learned from experience with ebay, both as a seller and as a buyer, is pretty harsh: sometimes you get lucky, and sometimes you don't. There doesn't seem to be any middle ground there. I'd echo previous advice to open a case and return the phone because it clearly doesn't match the description. The seller will have no choice but to comply, especially with electronic goods which are just a nightmare to sell - believe me I know. I posted a thread here some time ago about a dude who bought a DSLR from me, used it for a week, and then reported it as faulty so he could be fully refunded by ebay. Lesson learned!
