Not sure what kind of "mushroom repair" you did but they came out nice. :hehe: What was your setup for this and how did you figure out where to place focus in each of your three shots?

Here's another shot from my recent trip to the Eastern Sierras. Sabrina Lake is a manmade lake and popular trout fishing spot. I took this shot while scouting for a sunrise shooting location. I found a path up to a hill, and with a little climbing I was able to access a nice view from above the lake. Upon my return the following morning, there were about 20 photographers all lined up on the dam, but I had my cliff top all to myself. :)

    Hey Ligoman,

Setup for the 'shrooms was my 7D with 24-70L on a tripod and manual focusing using the live-view.

I didn't have my remote trigger with me, so I used 10 second timer + mirror lockup to kill the vibrations. The other thing I forgot home is a small sandbag I use on the lens to further reduce vibrations.

I shot it at f/8 to keep away from diffraction, so the first focus point was on the small mushrooms in the front right, the second to the mushrooms in the middle and the last to the highest 'shroom so that the trunk was also sharp.

In post I made basic tweaks in Lightroom and exported them to Helicon focus, which does the focus stacking pretty much automatically (minor tweaks to settings there). After that I did rest of the work in Photoshop and I'll attach one of the original photos here...

Hopefully the "mushroom repair work" can be seen here, also I cloned out a lot of crap from the tree trunk.

I really like your Sabrina lake sunset photo, nice repeating V-shapes across the field, so I think the composition works well.

Was it a longer exposure (cloud movement)?

All in all it's a nice, crisp image.

And the whole place is like this? Excellent - another reason to go back. Maybe Thanksgiving break.

Always nice when you get good shots at a place you discover. And that is a very nice shot :)

That's The Shard, right? Very pretty building.
    Eurgh

    @Mankz
Great picture, love the juxtaposition between old and new.
Perhaps you could make all of the pic black and white, but do the actual Shard building in colour?

...I though New York only vented steam all the time in movies.

Thanks. I want to go back too. The only city I've liked nearly as much was Seattle. But I think going to Seattle will be cheaper :p
The leaves on the left edge aren't doing anything for me.
So did I! It was pretty neat to be honest, with every other street hissing steam.

    Do you know why?
I mean, okay, so Starship command consoles are run on steam, but what else?
