    Very nice mate.

I managed to grab the camera quickly while this flew over the house.

It's St.Ives Bay from the beach at Upton Towans, Cornwall.

I usually check the sky out of the kitchen window while doing the washing up of an evening, and if the weather looks right, go for a walk along the beach or up to the lighthouse.

Did you use a filter for the shot? Tripod? Would love to know how you achieved it

    Pentax K-x
    Sigma 10-20 F4-5.6 DC EX

    No filter
    Hand held

    Manual -
    10mm
    f/6.3
    1/320
    ISO 200

Set the camera to f/6.3 primarily to control flare but also because my other landscape lens does nice things with the sky at that aperture. Metered for a mid point between the horizon and foreground, autofocus at the same midpoint then lock it off to stop the AF trying to grab the horizon.

The 10-20 doesn't seem to require a filter as much as the 18-50 or anything else. I figure that because the Sun is smaller in the frame at 10mm, it doesn't have as much power within the image. Also, it was pretty close to the horizon by this point.

There wasn't much swell, even less yesterday, but the waves lapped up differently along the shore, so just took many photos as I walked and picked the better ones.

Also, I pretty much always shoot handheld with the camera hanging off a Rapid Strap unless I specifically set out to take long exposures. It's easier to move around without one.

Stopping down usually reduces flare (especially veiling flare).

    Excellent. :thumb:

Love the splash of blue in with all the orange and yellow. Clouds can make for really interesting sunsets.

My friend with the Nikon stopped by so we took another trip down to the lighthouse. As it was dark by the time we got back, decided to try some night time shots of the ruins. I wasn't sure if the sky would be dark enough during summertime, but it wasn't too bad.

Did struggle trying to find a 2sec mirror lockup on the Nikon though. The Pentax has a dedicated button, which is easy, but the Nikon had a collar thing under the main select wheel. Ended up setting both cameras to 12 sec timed shutter release for a 15 sec exposure, popping the flash guns manually.

Did a shoot with a very pretty friend today.

    Click for larger (pretty please)

Dropped my shiny new 35L from about 1,5m on some metal plating with broken glass on it. Still works great but nicked the outside metal skin (few scratches close toghether). Bought it yesterday and it was in pristine condition... thought my heart was going to stop when I saw it drop.

They're pretty good, looks like you nailed the focus to be working with such a small aperture f-stop, wide aperture.

Thanks. Yes, I'm love the effect they create and am finally starting to get the hang of it. I think this is some of my best work so far. I have some more but will upload tomorrow, but these are my two favorites though. Had a blast and got some decent shots, happy camper!

Took this back in January, pretty new to all this!

    D3000 with a 85-300mm Sigma.

And this one yesterday with the same setup..getting a little better, Still quite blurry though, could be the distance of shot coupled with the non VR lens.

I'm quite please with them however : )

    Constructive criticism welcome!
