Ah, fair enough with the conditions.

Also, I'm the kind of guy that will leave home at 0600h, drive 3 hours, shoot four aircraft, wait 6 hours for a fifth to get airborne and drive home with sunburn. So 3 hours in a queue is totally all right for me.

Had a trip to Croft this weekend for the BTCC... Mixed bag weather wise and the constant change from sun/cloud was a little challenging. First proper outing with a 100-400 as well, so in all a bit of a steep learning curve.... Happy to see some improvement over the weekend but still not as many "worthy" shots, need to work on "capturing the moment" a little better...

Nice efforts! Good to see you still got some movement in the shots. You wont go too wrong with the 100-400, very good all rounder for the money

stoned: How could you tell it was kaput? Did you hear about it later?

Highland3r: Nice! I bet Silverstone is a hard track to get decent F1 snaps from in the dry, it's rather quick for the most part.

She took off for a practice flight and seconds after leveling out at about 500ft, there was a flurry of activity on the ground and we saw her making for finals. I grabbed a guy in an ATC shirt, and he said it was engine trouble. The USAF narrator then came on and said the same thing, plus "sorry, we're cutting this flight short as a precaution." I was quite impressed that the narrator made the effort to do this for a practice flight, but I suppose it's good practice in case something like this happens on a money day.

I met the flight crew the next day and went over the whole routine for an engine problem. They landed without the outboard thrust reversers to avoid asymmetrical reveres thrust, but because the #4 engine (the one visible in the photo) was producing no power while the #1 engine was producing some non-zero thrust, they still had to deal with imbalance, which one can tell because the rudder is deflected to counteract this. Normal landings would have little to no rudder movement until the end of the roll.

Going with 400 rather than 300 helped but the high fences arent ideal... I've not found many places to get decent front on shots so pretty much end up with sideways pans
. Saying that I've not spent a massive amount of time searching around.....

 

Wedding season in the big big swing... so haven't been online at all.

Took it few nights ago... Also the quality is little bit raped because of Facebook, I really need to get better place to stuff my photos if I start shooting more with my old D80... Anyway, hard to get thunderbolt on such a narrow space, but I'll get a much better shot someday!
