source: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2017/06/30/photobucket_charging_400yr_3rdparty_pgs/ what a load of rubbish, I know they are paying for the hosting but that fee is far too expensive for a couple of images.
I can recommend Flickr: images can be shared as direct hotlinks, there's a forum-compatible BBcode option, and you can store up to a terabyte of pictures on it for free. I use it to share my work photography and also to back up every image I take on my smartphone automatically. Works pretty well:
Didn't realise people still used them. My only existing memories of photobucket are from failed images where a user has exceeded their bandwidth lol. I just figured they lost their whole userbase over time to other places like imageshack, flickr and imgur.
I stopped using them ages ago as 50% of the time the images wouldn't load. Flickr is good as is postimage. Both work well. Imgur was good, but they have gone the way of photobucket where they work for a while then just die.
Shut mine and under reasons told them why. Been with flickr for ages. Use them for the sites I run for speedway riders. Wordpress has a cracking plug in that they can use that will update galleries from their phone. If bloke who is dopey enough to ride a bike with no brakes at 70mph and still be able to work it it must be easy
I still used it out of laziness, looks like they've given me the impetus to upload junk images and backups somewhere else.
With the amount of ads, pop ups and pop unders and now this, they can get rooted - I'll use flickr like others have suggested.
I have always used PB for images, never really had an issue, I run adblockers so never been affected by adverts on the site, the app on my phone worked great and my account, as yet, isnt affected. I guess this is the end of PB. Might look at my own web hosting now, been meaning to look into it for ages.
I've seen this over a few forums now, images hosted on photobucket seem to have been replaced with a placemarker telling you that you need to upgrade to enable 3rd party hosting. Googled it and came up with loads of stuff and it looks like photobucket has dropped it on us with no warning. I had a dig through what they are asking, and, for us hosting images with them it looks like we need the Plus 500 plan which is $40/month or $400/year to share photos on forums - http://photobucket.com/pricing I don't like to moan about free stuff, but for me I don't host enough to justify $40 a month. Other than Imgur, what are people using for better priced/free hosting?
I use ImageShack exclusively, and I've found it to be very good for forum use. A few years ago they started charging something like £2 per month and now it's around £3 per month (I paid $37.99 for my premium subscription) and IMO it's worth every penny. Other free hosting like Flickr is not bad but you'll never get for free what you can get with a subscription. Nuff said. Here's the first image I uploaded to my premium ImageShack account back in Feb 2012:
This seems like an appropriate place for this: So Awesome Photobucket by Cheapskate posted Jul 11, 2017 at 10:54 AM That's just the ads from deleting 4 albums.
Thanks, totally missed this thread. Interestingly, I haven't paid anything yet the image in my post is from photobucket - I had assumed it would replace it with the placeholder.
Loads of forums now are plastered with their begging boxes instead of pictures, they didnt think that thru did they that each one now just stands as a bad advert for their business and in each broken thread there is many of them. I wouldnt pay £10 a year to keep my PB account let alone the stupid sums their wishful thinking is telling them to ask for.
I remember using Photobucket and I always thought their hosting was crap and unreliable. Slightly off-topic: I feel the need to vindicate myself, so I'm posting this here (it was a restoration project and I did clean it good and proper!)
