Has anyone here ever made parts out of photoetched brass?

It's easier and cheaper than getting something laser or water cut since you can do it yourself at home, with the same reagents you'd use for a PCB etch... Apparently you can do the same thing with stainless steel too, though the etch takes longer.

Done it with stainless steel, a bit ghetto, but it worked OK for typed stuff. But that was just etching dirty grey names on shiny SS labels, not cutting through. Material was electro-etched with a swab of cotton wool dipped in ammonium persulphate solution (also sold for pcb etching), swab holder and part connected to a small DC power supply. :)

is that the "etch - o - matic" type of etching? I was talking about using FeCl3 without an external power source. I know that this can cut straight through the metal (brass at least.)

Looking at this I guess it was, but I'm going back a long time. Some sales rep came to the lab demonstrating the type-on kit, when he'd gone I made my own with some gestetner paper and cotton wool. :D
    Holy Caps!
