    Hi all,
I'm looking for a simple blogging script (or set thereof).
Naturally, open source (free anyway) is best.

I'm interested to know what you all use, and/or recommend.

http://www.textpattern.com/ is my fave at the moment, main nice feature is that it's php and pretty easy to customise though writing simple php scripts as plugins.

A whole foundry with many admin-side demos. Look under Portals (full content systems like phpnuke and Mambo) and Blogs.

Edit: Looks like you already found it in that last link... I tried to be useful, really...

http://bruno-me.org/ - I'm thinking of opensourcing my system

it's fast, easily modified, easy to use/set up, but it's not quite as easily customizable as other systems (mostly hard coded)

anyway, I'm thinking of setting up an sf project, but pm me if you want the source

Ok, so a bit of a thread revival, but this is something that has been keeping the back of my head occupied for some time...I really like the idea of having a blog, but as I am often lost for words, I tend to take photographs instead, and whilst its easy enough to send everyone an email with the photos attached, the idea of having a site, where I can just update friends on my life by posting photos and comments seems so much better...So I have checked out WordPress and Textpattern, and from my basic understanding I should be able to do what I want to do using WordPress (once I have hosting that is) but could someone give me a bit more of a definate answer before I jump out on my instincts and pay for some hosting?
Also are there any other options I should look at, or is this one of those really specialised ideas that I really should get off my lazy beehind and learn how to code in php and do it myself??

    Ta very much
    f.

I love to take random photos too and host them so i use gallery http://gallery.menalto.com/ and its a brillaint piece of software. It can also be intergrated into wordpress so you can have a blog where you explain the photos then link to it. As it happens on my site i just skinned it to look like its intergrated as the PHP version on my server wasnt up to date at the time. As a no hassle easy to setup piece of software i would definatly recommend it

yeah, looks like something that could do the job, but would i be able to customize it such that instead of having the gallery on the seperate page, i could have it all just one page, so maybe photo photo photo, then photo with text (basically just photos and text) and maybe some kind of link to leave feedback??

Wouldn't the photo blog be something similar to flickr?
    Here's my crappy flickr site:
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/93819404@N00/
(with a total of one photo)

    Edit:
    There's also blogger.com
of which I also have a crappy site:
    http://blog.woventhorns.com
If you scroll down, you can see pictures, easily postable by google's Picasa 2, simply by clicking the image and clicking the blogger link.

And you can host your blogger account on blogpsot.com for free, btw.

Ugh, don't go with Flickr (based on personal views, I just bloody hate Flickr)

If you're after a photoblog where you can post a shot either with or without accompanying text and allow others to comment, check out PixelPost

If you're ready to bite the bullet and got with your own site, there is a place out of Canada I use for my site called Register 4 less (uf.r4l.com). For $15 USD a year (yes, year) you get a domain and 5 MB of space. I got started woith that and finally went to a 50 MB space for all my pics. Personally, I use some pretty basic HT|, but at least I write it myself.

Wordpress is great, check my site.

Just edit the CSS files and you're sorted.
