How are you everyone!! Turns out a couple of weeks ago i bought a XFX HD 5870, replacing my 9800GTX nad ofc I was planning to sell it. BUT, ith the present and future videogames getting more physics intensive, Im thinking now i should keep my 9800GTX as videogames are asking for dedicated videocards for this matter. The problem ofcourse is nVidia wont allow to run physX if an ATi videocard is present in the system (wich I think is a sad move) Im currently doin some reasearch, some workaround to allow this (i've found for example that the BETA 257 drivers didnt block the physX, and it worked perfect) but ofc new drivers will be released and eventually it will become useless. If you can help with any tips or some Info that im could be missing it would be nice to hear. I myself will be looking and digging deeper in the abyss of the Internets to find something Cheers everyone
I think you should just sell on the card as PHYSX is kind of pointless and you might only get another few week out of it until you have to update your drivers due to new games coming out
Well I play physx enabled games like, Mirrors edge, Batman, Metro 2033 etc and I enjoy the extra detail. So if I where you, I would keep it, if you play those games. You can usethis hack to use the latest drivers from nvidia, which is what i'm using. Cheers, Simon.
Physx would only be a visual enhancement on single player games and that is all it will be until Nvidia stop making it exclusive. Online games like Bad Company 2 can't have halfs its customer base without Nvidia GPUs not render the buildings crumbling and stuff. In the end, Physx isn't even superior to Havok physics which doesn't even bring your GPU to its knees.
I really want to do this but I'd have to buy a nvidia card first and I'd worry that I would spend the money and then it not work
I think the same, and I firmly believe you shouldnt get a new videocard for it. The thing is I already own the card, instead of selling it i think it worth give it a try.
Good think PhysX is regarded as crap, I was feeling to be a bit of an idiot when I bought my HD 5870 and Batman and Killing Floor refused to play well.
Try any Nvidia drivers with the PhysX hack from here and let us know how you get on. I tried to set it up (you need Win7 btw) but it never worked for me, I think because the 8600 GTS I was attempting to use with my 4870 is not powerful enough.
Physx is what makes every bleedin' generic console port that comes to the PC different. I like it..it's a bonus feature.
Batman is a worthy game to get for PhysX, its added atmosphere is fantastic. i also hope Mafia 2 will be a worthy addition to PhysX. Hybrid PhysX mod linked by true_gamer is the best source, i've used it to get my 8800GT to work with 5870.
thnx true_gamer and primonserry, will try those patch and see how it works. At the moment I have Vista 32bits, guess I will need to upgrade to windows 7.
Instead of just commenting on PhysX, I thought it would be helpful to link to videos of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXfm_Qr6RP8 Darkest of Days http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iWlmIjNiqWM Batman AA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BGCZtXg5LyA Dark Void http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bt8DEEEMTHw Metro 2033 (which is NOT a "rubbish game" BTW- I loved it) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0xRJt8rcmY Mirrors Edge Watching those videos is the only way to decide if PhysX holds any value to you. You wouldn't post "Is the new "band X" CD any good? I'm thinking of buying it." because people's opinion's would be as meaningless as they are here. I've hated games critics loved, loved games critics hated, yawned at effects others fawned over, and been excited by effects others yawned over. Fortunately for the world, if you want to know what PhysX is about you can spend 10 minutes watching those videos and know whether or not having those effects in some games has any value to you personally.
