I have to ask, why put a case inside a case?
And if you know the dimensions for the 5½" bay you could use that as a reference.
Alas you do not state your residence so I do not know where to look for it.
But what about tearing apart an old optical drive and use that as a case?
That way you only have to provide a front fascia and make holes for standoffs.
Your best bet would be running it without a seperate case just like Langer has done in his Project. Suggest you check out his build to get the idea.

Thanks for the ideas :) the optical drive mounting with standoffs would work perfectly for it.

I would like to use it as a hardware firewall and maybe a few other bits installed and have a small lcd screen mounted in the window of my case powered by it with who knows what infomation on it yet. dont really want to be carrying multiple pcs around when i move so if i can get it all in one case the better :)

not much of a modder unfortunately and wanted a tidy case i could just put some screws in to mount it. but i am sure i can drill some holes :)
