Yes everyone loves the idea because it's Microsoft but I don't think it's fair to say that because of this Microsoft are likely to be using loads of other pirated software. The wav files were probably created by some programmer at home who happened to decide to use a cracked version of Sound Forge. It's not like microsoft can prevent their employees using pirated software. The only thing they can do is buy licences for all the software that is widely used in the company and discourage the employees from using any software that Microsoft haven't approved.

wtf? Why would they ever be this stupid...the only thing I can think of is someone created it just for a temporary thing, and then forgot to change?

    yours :)

this is what will happen... you take them down, then face the hundreds of millions of users stranded with an OS open to attacks from everyone, who eventually retreat to linux only to find they dont know how to use it :)

as DeX said. MS wont be using pirated software in their company offices, and will own licences for more than they need of everything they use. What the employees do at home cannot always be helped by them! MS employees likely get paid a shedload, there some of the best, tbh, but still. If software is a few hundred quid, or thousands, its awfully tempting for them to pirate still.

Who is likly to take action, someone HAS too will it be sony or the makers of the pirated software?? if no one does, then its my oppinion that using pirated m$ goods is fine, and if i get sued then i have a REALY good counter claim, 'well you do it too, look'

I think its more likely to be from what Dex said.

I would assume that a company like MS would make sure that whatever software their employess are using they would be covered with a license.

Even if the employee is working from home, it would mean that if he/she needed certain software to do their job it would be provided / covered by their employer, in this case MS.

    Question is though...

Is it legal to have a pirated / cracked version of software installed on your PC even when you have a legitimate paid for license and copy of the software?

For example, you need to have this .wav file finished by this evening, but you cannot find your original software disk.
(you do own a legit copy however)
Are you allowed to install a pirated version as a temporary solution?

It's most likely MS sub-contract multimedia and artwork stuff, along with advertising, and concentrate on programming and running a business.

Funny story, but that's all, folks. :D

Ugh, stop calling Microsoft "M$". It makes you look even more of an idiot than you already do.

This is probably where penski will chip in with a link to an appropriate cartoon.
