Its been getting bad artifacts in games too, after about an 1hr of half life, Ive started noticing the glitch problem is bigger then I thought. Couple this with the poor performance in benchmarks, im going to RMA it back to the nice guys at TekHeads, get a refund and buy a Galaxy 6600GT from them instead.

Good thing I was careful to keep all the packaging and books.

    In 3DMark03, went from around 4100 with a ATi 9600XT to 8300 odd with a 6600GT :)

Ive just got my RMA from tekheads, but i dindt know I could get charged 20% of the products price if they deem it not "faulty", i mean, if they think it working in HL2 with only a few atifacts is not faulty, or that itll play some games with out artifacts, what can I do to prove them wrong? Ill just send it and if they try to tell me its not faulty Ill just fight to get my refund.

Although having said that the guys at tekheads do seem like nice people and ive had no problems with them so far, spose 'the proof of the pudding is in the eating' as they say.

I would say your cpu is a 'serious' bottleneck, because, correct me if im wrong but 6600gt are alot more cpu dependant than 9800pro

they're more memory dependant from my experience - they seem to really benefit from 1GB of system ram. :)

ah, ive always had 1gig with my 6800, but found when my p4 was stock at 2.4gig i got around 3000 in 05, overclocked at 3.2gig i get 5000. might try only 512 mem see how much difference it makes

I was referring to the 6600GT in general, not the 6800 vanilla - but I would be interested in finding out whether its true with a 6800 vanilla too :)

Any artifacting at stock speed is defective/faulty... end of story.

ah, i would have thought that it would be around the same percentage difference between 512/1gig for a 6 series....or maybe not?

I didn't do any quantifiable numbers on the 6600GT, but I was testing 2x256MB and 2x512MB - I found the latter to offer a significantly smoother gaming experience. A lot of your difference could be from only running single channel - I'm guessing you only have 2x512MB DIMMs here. :)

Ok, your PC is junk.. Sorry to have to say it but what do you expect??? The 6600 relies on high bandwidth for its speed and requieres more cpu and memory bandwidth then a 9800 pro... I just cant figure out why peeps hang on to these dying socket A cpus... :duh: It would of been even worse if you'd of bought a 6800 ultra! The best thing you can do is get rid of that mobo ram and cpu... And that goes for evry one who is thinking of buying a next gen GPU...

Sounds ab0out right, a bit harsh in terminology but not far from the mark. Spend the £150 needed to upgrade tyour mobo and CPU and then you'll see it fly.

Well belive it or not were not all made of cash and cant justify laying out a grand or two on new kit. Besides, with a new graphics card my machine is more the capable of running any game I throw at it. Dont get snobby just because you have an A64 or a PCI-E motherboard.
