I have a Belkin 4 port Router, and recently got a new case. It is one of those huge Antec jobbies that comes with a True Power power supply.
One of the nice things about it is there is about 2 or 3 inches of space above the power supply. Would it be bad for my router/power supply to mod the router inside the case so the ports are facing the back?
If I do that, how hard would it be to de-solder one of the ports and wire it directly to my networking card, and replace the receptical on the back of the card with a switch to "unplug" my computer from the router. (that way I don't have a networking cable going from the top of my case to the bottom of my case on the back)

I can't afford to replace anything, so I want to make sure before I do it that it won't harm anything.

    Thanks in advance.

I have a small 4 port switch that I am going to add to my case so that I can use it for networks if I need to. I dont see ANY reason why you cant add the router inside your case. Just be aware of how you have to power it, Im not familiar with that model.

As far as the direct connection to your lan card, is it a PCI or on-board? The physical act of wiring it would not be a problem but you will need to ne VERY careful and double...no triple check were you solder the wires. im sure some of the other more adept people will chime in to say yeah or nay

for the PSU, I would try and get a plug to fit, rather than soldering onto the board. same with the lan connection, use the sockets.

I would personally ignore trying to put a router inside a PC, the
whole reaosn you get one is so that you can leave your PC off yes?

I actually just bought the router to share the internet with roomates. I plan on making it simlar to the power supply, in that it will be in a metal project box screwed to the back of the computer. This way, when I need it elsewhere, I can just unscrew it, and put a metal plate over the hole in the back of my computer.

I plan on trying to make a small cover for one of the ports that, when inserted/slid into place, it would activate the port I'm going to add that is only accesable inside the case. That way I can use the router as normal, or just flip a switch or insert a plug and have it automatically plug my computer in, without any wires in the front.

I'll try and make a diagram later of it.
