Hi all, I'm planning a LAN party in Wales relatively soon, 64 places towards the end of February (it's all pretty last minute), I've had a chance of a 72-port HP Procurve J4121 from a local company for cheap (or so internet research tells me). Being someone that knows nothing about networking equipment who's hiring staff to work the net, can anyone tell me roughly how good they are?

A few people will be playing Bad Company and Blur but that's about it for the more modern games in the list, I'm not sure if that makes any difference to the outcome but thought it might be helpful.

    Thanks in advance
    Sharn

As standard, the 4000M has 10/100 modules, this will suffice. It's also managed so you can always monitor, and limit that way, of course you'll need to implement a DHCP server / router as well, so make sure it's up to scratch.

For router I would suggest pfsense on a dedicated machine.
If that is too complicated, you could try endian. I have had some problems with it, but that came down to hardware combatibility.
