Nah, I'm fine with how it is, was just all that chassis covering a big part of the fan that needed sorting & now it is it's running good, runs as cool as Air Cube did. After completing Lean & Green & not using it I'm going to take a while before doing a new one, I'll post any designs I come up with in this thread though & eventually pick a few of my favourites & put it to a vote on which I should make.
I'm liking this one quite a bit, has qualities of stealthlow & air cube & something new, been revising it so it would all work.
Projects Air Cube v2 ATX Stealthlow ATX Lean and Green mini-ITX & ATX Midlag Crisis mini-ITX Intranuc NUC basic HTPC mini-ITX Basic Gaming case mini-ITX MATX air cooled gaming rig micro-ATX Project Jibadib micro-ATX
Gone back to SLI & the aerocool case ran too warm so switched for the gaming case from project LAG, much better temperatures & far quieter. Better piece of eye candy for the desktop.
Been playing about with the next design, very early stage, air cooled fairly minimal & mostly open for now, much more work needs going into the design. Added 30ml cable mess section with handle. New fan mount.
Loaded up some component models from sketchup warehouse, think I'll be making this one over the coming summer months & it's to be my next gaming chassis so big quiet but effective air cooling & easy maintenance & with all the components on show I'll likely mod them all to look part of the project so likely a bunch of mini projects within the project. Bit more design time on this to get it just right & so it won't flex when picked up along with extras I don't know how to implement in sketchup. So what ya think of it?, constructive criticism, suggestions, comments totally welcome while in design phase, tis why I started the thread, suggestions sometimes bug me a little after I made a solution in a project log.
Mix of aluminium, acrylic & possibly wood, the wood depends on if I have a big enough piece, got a block of cocobolo & maple. Finish, possibly candy paint sprayed over clear adhesion promoter, can't be arsed with my lacqodising, too tricky to get right.
Sounds like a interesting mix I'll keep my eye open for this one. I keep getting side tracked ATM I'm working with copper and fusing Dichoric glass in to it for someone, I've worked with glass for years it's a great material to work with.
Had to look up Dichoric glass, sounds interesting fused with copper, I've not worked any glass yet, not got the bits to work it, good artists get to grips with many materials so I'm still newb really but I like that with having so much to learn, learning is a big part of the enjoyment in modding for me, probably due to learn new materials though, been doing the aluminium & acrylic all along, tried copper, brass & both are workable with my tools, tried stainless steel, bit too tough for my tools though my scroll saw just tickles it.
Was a bit taller than it needed to be since adding the 30mm cable mess area where I can now mount the storage better so done an alternative shorter one making all the needed changes, shorter one lacks some of the curviness though but I do prefer the smaller size, less wasted space. Last update on this for today. Really need to tidy & organise the room I mod in though, absolute sheet tip so would be a nightmare starting a new project in there.
Engineered it to be strong, no weak points on it now, added cable holes, a slot in place HDD & Velcro mount SSD, all it needs now is all the screw holes adding. Now I either add this 1 to my design choices & do more designs so I make sure I dedicate to a worthy one or run at it & order the needed materials & bits to make it, thinking more serious about it I'll add it to my choices & keep designing so scrap the modding over the summer, maybe autumn. Might get a go pro camera for project logging, would be far more convenient for taking pictures with a head cam, would capture a more in depth log too capturing all the steps, tripod & DSLR really isn't ideal for a cramped workshop, that's more for final photos.
Thanks Deano. Ordered the acrylic for making the one with the handle so should have the project log up soon.
It's currently a basic blank canvas really so I'll put more design time in to make it less minimal. Got the 30mm a4 slab of acrylic, it's 32mm to 33mm, already added the difference to the design.
