Small Form Factor Planning to watercool a Shuttle SN41G

    Small project I want to do. Yes, I searched, and the posts I found date back to '05 (and a recently resurrected post from last year). What I have is a Shuttle that my girlfriend uses for school stuff and light gaming (HL2 mainly). The problem is the dang thing overheats so easily. What I want to set up is a water cooling loop for the CPU.

    The kit I remember looking at is a Globalwin Silent Stream. I can't seem to find these in stock anywhere, does anyone have a link?

    It is, but I'd rather buy a complete setup than part it together. But let's run with that:

    If I do a custom loop, I'd need a small pump, small CPU block and 80mm rad. Definitely need to run this as 1/4" I'm thinking.

    I'd say get a DD TDX, Black Ice Micro, and a DDC with Petra's Tech top; I'd recommend using 3/8" tubing instead of the 1/4"

    Just fill the loop before installing? I'd like it to be as internal as possible, so resovoir is out of the question huh?

    All depends; some people fill/leak test outside the case. I find it easies to lay out the tubing with the other hardware installed, then have just the pump powered during filling/bleeding.

    Reservoir or T-line will both work; T-lines are more compact though; if you go with a res (maybe the Swiftech Micro Res) either put it somewhere where you can easily access it, or tuck it out of sight and leave enough tubing to pull it out where it's accessible.

    Swiftech did have a Pump/Res combo, that fits in a single cd drive bay.
    Was easy to fill too.

    I wouldn't go with the pump/waterblock combo unit; primarily because you're stuck replacing the whole thing if the pump fails.

    How is that really any different from having to replace a failed pump in a loop. You would still have to drain the whole loop etc etc.

    Are you using a discreet graphics card? If not then there's plenty of room for everything inside.
    If you are (which is most likely the case) you may have to have the radiator on the outside of the case, are you opposed to do some customising of the case with a dremel?
    You could have a DDC pump where the floppy drive goes (cutting out the bottom of the bay as the pump wont fit otherwise)
    Pics would be a help for fitting everything in.

    The difference is that with the combo unit you'd effectively be replacing both the pump and the waterblock; rather than just the pump.

    I have been thinking about the DDC pump. If I do that, I'd do a res in the 3.5" bay (there is 1 open atm), or in the 5.25" bay (and use an external DVD drive). These are the specs:

    2.6 Ghz 533 P4 Northwood
    Shuttle SN41G
    768MB RAM PC3200
    80gb 7200 WD
    BFG 6800 256MB

    I have enough room for the 80mm rad mounted inside, with a shroud + fan on the outside. The proc block will need to have smallish barbs, though; I have about 4 in. clearance in height.

    You could use right angled barbs on the CPU block thus avoiding clearance issues. For the Res don't use acrylic ones as they tend to crack and leak.

    Any good resevoirs I should pay attention to that aren't plexi? Namely 3.5" or 5.25" bay resevoirs?

    They all seem to be acrylic these days. But I don't trust them.
    What about something like this? Trying to avoid having the DVD drive external but may have to go for something like that. What about a DD fillport res? Or if you get the DDC you could have one of these.

    EDIT: For the CPU block this is low profile so would fit quite easily.

    I personally would steer clear of Koolance products; I'd stick with Swiftech, DangerDen, EK-Waterblocks, D-Tek, Hardware Labs, Thermochill, and LIANG.

    HardOCP loves Koolance, so it's worth considering (imo). I REALLY like that bay pump/res, but the whole "don't run me dry" thing worries me a bit.

    I think best case scenario for me is a bay/pump combo and a low profile block like that. $200 for that setup is not bad!
