Cheap Plasma Globes in the UK

    Hi all,

I saw this article on Friday and I was wandering through Big W in Belfast yesterday and guess what, They have Plasma globes about this size for £10. No plastic witch attached, just a plain black cube for a base. I'm sure any other Big W's will have them as well - maybe Woolies will have them too.

Hi, BigNiall, our Woolies has them, £9.99 like wot you describe. I assume they run off 240v, so you'd mebbe also need a suitable 12v inverter. unless there's a wallwart like linears. I'll have a look in the box next time I'm in... :D

see, now if the area behind that plat was cut out so you could see through it, it would have been so much better...

That plasma disc on the side panel is pretty cool but I think it looks way over the top. Its the sort of thing that makes non modders think "why?"

I personally think what Linear did is much better with a lot more kudos points attached. So well done to you sir. Please don't neglect that bloo glowy fan duct tho

...but if that's what turns you on, I saw one at £40 in the WickedGizmos.com shop in Doncaster, the plasma neon circle looks very nice, not as frantic as the plasma plate. Can't see the plate on their site yet.

...and that design is begin knocked out through ebay at $350 ...
No-ones gonna get rich creating these radical case mods...

How long do you reckon before plasma globe modding kits appear on The Overclocking Store?

Hallo! Sorry for my bad english, because I am German...

I wanted to know, if your comp is still living  ;) and if your plasma globe is always switched on, when your computer is.

I have a similar Idea, but I want to be sure, that the hardware lives for more than a half year :).

    Best Regards from Germany,

    Sebastian

The effect of the plasma globe in the PC has been discussed elsewhere on the forum several times...

Can you help me a littlebit? I didn't found any helping stuff with the "search-button". Or did you mean the Threads abot the Plasma-Plates? Because I didn't find any big discussions about this topic.

Hey linear, is the ball still working, I know its been a while. Im wondering as to the lifespan of those things. Picked one up for $17 CAD from spencers, and Am building a whole case around it, Im thinking being on 24/7 isnt a good thing for it, so I was planning on having it controlled via software, possibly a serial port (If I was putting a LCD in the case it would be straigt easy.

The other question is, well. um... err.... does your ball get hot? I got a 4" and it gets a little hot.

My ball doesn't get hot. I have build a circuit with a LDR inside. So the ball switches on, when it's getting dark.
