hi i'm looking for something that will allow me to play wtv(windows media center recorded tv files) files on my pc without converting them as i really dont have the time for that, i am planning on streaming them from my upstairs pc to the pc connected to the tv but my tvpc is not upto any kind of file converting with any real speed. i am just after some software to allow me to play .wtv files. thanks si
is there something wrong with my post or is it just that no-one knows of any software to play .wtv format in xp home
I'd guess the latter I'm afraid. I've only been able to find apps to convert from wtv to alternative formats via Bing and Google. I take it that your HTPC is using Win7 - the only option you have is to convert it to DVR-MS - in Win7 it's as easy as right clicking on the relevant .wtv files and selecting convert to dvr-ms from the context menu. So long as your XP install is running SP2 or later you'll only need a DVD decoder to watch DVR-MS files (the old MCE output). There really isn't any other option that I can find - direct viewing on XP seems out of the question right now. I've found converting files more than quick enough - without knowing what your PC specs are I wouldn't be able to estimate, but as head-up my gaming rig prior to the Q9650 used an overclocked E2160 at 2.6GHz - it would convert an hour file in 10-15 mins. the core i3 in my HTPC does that in 5. Hope that's of some (if frustratingly annoying) help.
