An interview given by the search engine's co-founders has thrown doubt over its IPO

An interview with Google's co-founders in Playboy may cast yet another shadow over the search star's initial public offering.

Larry Page and Sergey Brin, the two Stanford computer science grads who started Google six years ago, granted an interview to Playboy magazine a week before they filed for their $2.7bn IPO in late March, according to Playboy's Web site. Now, their interview has surfaced in Playboy's September issue, which is already being shipped to subscribers and will be on newsstands on Friday.

Though most certain to boost Playboy's circulation for the month, the issue could also raise concerns with the Securities and Exchange Commission that Google has violated its mandatory "quiet period," IPO analysts say. Despite great efforts on the part of Google executives to keep mum during the months after it filed, an interview granted before the official registration could be a temporary deal delay, they say.

"The SEC has put together the quiet period so the market can't be conditioned, so there shouldn't be anything that circulates other than material fact," said David Menlow, president of IPO Financial Network, a securities research specialist
