I can play C&C: Generals online but I can't play my Battlefield 1942. So I thought that I would not be able FPS. But today I downloaded a demo to Delta Force Black Hawk Down and I can play that online. So I'm wondering why can't I play Battlefield 1942 and if there is something I should do to be able to play it. Anyone got any ideas? I'm going to download more demos to other FPS shooter games to see if I can play them. But it will be tomorrow at the earliest :waah:.

Oh I can't get broadband in my area so getting broadband is not a option. Except DirectWay which I have heard won't help my problem at all, not to mention it is $600 just for the hardware.

Theres quite a bit more activity going on within BF than most shooters. The reason you can play Generals is because it slows the game down to what your connection can handle. That isnt an option within FPS's.

Sorry I haven't been online lately, just been really busy with the AirForce and family.

It plays somewhat well, but I still got a high ping almost every single second I played (200-300+ when other broadband'ers were getting roughly 20-50)

There is a quake3 mod (soon to be wolfenstien mod) called urban terror similar to CS that plays well on 56k I used to play it with 300ms ping and it had only a small benefit for me going to broadband with a sub 50ms ping.

Especially the latest DoD from what I understand. I have dsl and still only get around a 60-80 ping, but it is very playable. Haven't tried it on 56k since the beta 1.3 days.

They will play pretty well once you get all of the steam crap downloaded...not an appealing prospect on 56k...unless you have a few hours to kill downloading (only like what...700MB for the full install?). :D

Day of Defeat. It is a World War II mod for Half Life. In my opinion, one the best online games from a playability standpoint. The maps are pretty much all flag/objective based. And many of the captures require 2 people to cap. Which means to win you need to play as a team instead of just running around blasting everyone (which is fun too). You have 5 main classes: Rifleman, Seargant, Support Infantry, Sniper, and machine gunner. You either play American versus German or British versus German depending on the map/server. You can check it out at http://www.dayofdefeat.net :thumb:
