Shame, I was hoping it wouldn't be released this year (mainly because I hate Playstations) then I could bug the rest of the PS fanboys in my clan to get their act together and buy 360's ;)

For some reason I'm still doubtful that we'll see it in the UK this year. I know 6 million is alot but I can see Sony making sure they satisfy demand in US and Japan rather than risk three markets at once. Anyhow I'll still be waiting 3 to 6 months after Launch to make sure all the first release niggles are worked out, so its definitely 2007 for me.

As mentioned in this article, as I live in the UK this actually means I'll be seeing a PS3 before I thought I was. Hopefully there won't be any more slipages if it just a Blu-Ray thing as I can't believe that won't be ready for a launch at the end of the year. The sooner thing thing comes out the better as it will lead to competition and hopefully price cuts. I presume the Revolution is still on course. So a 3 way market Will actually make these consoles more affordable whichever you want. I'm open but I think PS3 is the most likely as I'm a bit of a Gran Turismo whore though if Microsoft or Ninty come up with a better racing simulation then thats where I'll go.

I'll be pleasantly surprised if Sony actually manage to do as they say and accomplish a world wide launch by the end of the year. And only six million? Hardly seems enough to satisfy just the Japanese and Asian market.

Tbh, I have always thought "2007" and I tend to agree with those who suggest it will be more like USA / Japan for Christmas 2006 and UK in January or later. Since I'm not one of the ones eager to buy one, I can say that with complete indifference (as opposed to the more common deep-felt resentment of a gamer screwed over by delayed launch after delayed launch)

Kinda takes some of the wind out of next week's GDC though :(

The main problem the PS3 will have is achieving the next generation look with it's initial launch titles.

If it does arrive in November (unlikely), the Xbox 360 will have 3rd generation games released that really begin to tap into the power of the console. And of course will have a much bigger library of games.

And I agree that 6 million units is nowhere near enough, especially giving the PS2's dominance in Asia.

I read that when they said 'by the end of this year' they meant the financial year, so end of march, not december..

Depends how you look at it... for a pc of similar spec it is a bargain, considering it is going to last 5yrs+ its good value... it just depends how much you are going to use the thing and how much you enjoy it that is going to justify if it is worth £80 a year to you - or if you follow sonys estimate of it lasting 10 years, only £40 a year!

Also, I wouldn't call a games console a kids pc. They aren't meant to be pcs and are traditionally used just for playing games and we all know that there is nothing wrong with playing games ;) :p :thumb:

360 will be 200 quid by that time, double the PS3, with at least the same and possibly better graphics if the tricore chips are put into full use

and possibly a 100gb hard drive

    ho ho ho

I was pleased to hear this on Radio 1 today... as it's finally Sony admitting that there is a delay. At least they've owned up and have announced a few goodies at the same time.

Linux 'official' support sounds good. Though with a 60gb drive it's hardly going to store huge amounts of media if it's to be a device for others to grab from...

Just go to show, DRE hurts everyone (according to Sony, all the components are ready except for the Blu-Ray drives; they're still waiting on the specifications for AACS).

has anyone even thought about how much the games will cost once the console if whenever released??? ok so the console will cost £400/500 which aint a small bit of change for anyone then comes the games..... osif the current xbox360 games cost between £30/50 depending if its a "good" game so how much will it be for the Ps3 games? £60/80 just for a game?

Sony are really shooting themselfs in the foot with their pricings. but as fanboi's do and will pay the preamium(SP?) but what about us casual gamers? can we actually justify laying down near £1000 for a console and all its bits just for abit of entertainment?

Not me for one, because it's pointless. Until there's an official announcement regarding the price of the console itself, how can one start worrying about the prices of the games?
We don't know what it will cost.
Really? I think $149 for the PS2 is quite reasonable. The PSP is a tad expensive IMHO at about $200, but not enough to say that Sony is shooting itself in the foot.
I'm sure we can. We can already justify deciding whether or not to buy something that has had no announcements regarding price (except, of course, that it will be "expensive") based on our own arbitrary guesses. :)

Because as looking at the current prices of the xbox360 games its abit obvious that Sony games will atlest cost that much if not even more, its common sense.

Its been said buy a partner of the Ps3 that it will roughly cost $800 to produce and Sony will be loosing $400/500 per console just like Microsoft loosing $100 for each xbox360.

Have a look at the date when the Ps2 came out? i believe its been 5yrs? maybe more? thats usual with a console whenever a newone is announced the current model gets demoted and price slashed but its not surprising as the ps2 has been out for such a long time. And as with the psp $200 is not bad but then look at the other bits required for the handheld? memstick/games/umd movies?? and how much do they cost?? exactly tooo much. Never trust sony with anything dealing with price as most of the time they are allways over priced.

http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1021085&highlight=ps3+price, get your facts straight before you call my answers guesses.

Common sense would say that PS3 games can't cost much more than X-Box 360 games if they are to sell.
No "partner of the Ps3" has said that it will roughly cost $800 to produce.
Dunno much about the PSP, but as far as the PS2 goes, I'll say again that the price seems reasonable. I agree that PSP accessories cost too much. On the other hand, so do X-Box accessories. And X-Box 360 accessories.
ROTFL... are you referring to that Merryl-Lynch report that kept calling the PS3 the PS2 and didn't have the correct total at the bottom?

Even if you were, you do realize that the (correct) cost of production according to that report was $800? MS loses $126 on each X-Box 360. Let's pretend that Sony decides to price its PS3 exactly that much below its manufacturing cost. You do the math. Hint: it's nowhere near the prices you cited.

By the way, if you're going to link to a thread, at least read it. Especially the post that points out ML's estimate for the X-Box 360's cost of production was $715. And the handy link to an interesting article at GamesIndustry.biz.

The only reason why the unit will cost so much is beacuse of the cell and blu ray....even sony has admitted that the delays would occour when production goes into full steam.I believe the partner who was commented at the production costat was Nvidia. Being with new and unused technology its blatant that its gonna be expensive and over the years it will get cheaper.

All im saying it that just dont expect it to be cheap and expect it to cost more than the xbox360 easilly.

Fair enough. :) I didn't mean to sound like a PS3 fanboy (though I am one :p), it's just that there's a lot of FUD out there about the PS3, and it's quite exasperating.
