Does anybody have a link or guide of their own on how to do this? I remember seeing it awhile ago, but I can't find it in my bookmarks nor can I seem to find it on google. I also know there's a plethora of converters available online, but I'd prefer something I can build my own and customize it to fit into a case I want to build.
I have seen one, but don`t remember where... sorry I just remember they modded it to a usb contact.. Edit: This didn`t help much, but atleast now you know its out there
As far as I know, most PS2 to USB convertors utilise various special components which are difficult to get hold of. Most of the guides available online show you how to wire them up to a spare parallel port, which is just as good and can also support multitaps. I bought a converter - pretty cheap (£5.99) from Play.com and it works ok - u could always get one, gut the plastic housing, and mod the circuit into yr case i suppose. PsxPad is the best driver to use btw.
That's what I'm lookin for, the parallel port one, as I have a multi-tap [ er, will... ] and the actual controller/memory card thing from my PSX [ I integrated a couple memory cards and converted the controllers to use D-subs just recently. Still modding ] But anyway, I'll keep googling.
I used this guide here for mine. Works ok, but drivers for it are a bit touchy. I ended up buying one from Play.com as they work a lot more reliably.
So far the 3 guides I've seen are all the 5 diode method like that, so out of curiosity what drivers are you using? 2 sites recommend DirectPad Pro 6, or PSXpad Edit: The megatap [ 4 controllers on one parallel port ] is here. That dude's page also has links to a USB PSX interface guide, but it requires programming an IC. Oh, and the NTPad drivers, while elusive, appear to work best on XP machines. All others are usually optomized for Win98.
I found the NTPad drivers worked the best, closely followed by DirectPad. Others as you say are mainly for 98.
There is a guide online on stepe to make one and it plugs onto your parallel port, but there is a usb version available for pretty low cost. (I paid $9.99 U.S.D. for mine at my local radio shack of all places) I figured this was a tad bit easier and less time consumimg. it works great with the original contoller, dual shock analog controller works great, the vibration also works. it also suppposedly works with the dancemat, fishing rod, and light guns as well.
Good thing you pointed that out! This thing looks ****ing hackable. Seeing as how I have most of the stuff for the parallel port one [ and no free USB ports ] I'll try it and see. But thanks for the pointer
