Hi I've just put a waterblock on a gigabyte 7850 and there's a single chip on the board which the block doesn't sit on which gets very hot: Can anyone tell me what, or what that chip most likely is, and whether its even suppose to produce alot of heat? Thanks.
Looks to be a CHiL Semiconductor CHL8225 controller which manages the power system. And yes I can imagine it would require some form of cooling or ventilation. Google is your friend mate: http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/graphics/display/radeon-hd-7870-ghz-edition-hd-7850_2.html#sect1
Ah, Thanks Seems silly that EK would just not even bother to put a raised section on the bottom of the block to reach that chip.
Yeah I've just put a copper square between the chip and the block, it sort of works but the board behind the chip still gets quite warm, not leaving much overclock potential , I just wonder whether it's actually suppose to even produce that much heat.
