I've got a MSI k8t neo and 256 of geil 3200 as seen here: 256 module

Then I just received my 512 of geil 3200 as seen here:The 512 module

Whenever I install both of them, my computer won't boot up and keeps beeping. I tried putting them in different slots following the motherboard booklet but still did the beeping and no boot :wallbash:

Any ideas? Is it because the memory timings are different? Which should I enter instead of those?

    Thanks in advance :thumb:

Yes. It boots fine. Same thing if I put only 256, boots fine.

Therefore, I know they both work. I also tried each in different slots, so the slots also work fine.

hi i bought 2x512mb of memory to go with my 256mb as my board said it could take 3 strips of memmory upto 3gb BUT like you when i put the 256 in with the new 512mb's it jus did the no memory beep and wouldnt boot... no one could work out why so i sold the 256mb to a m8 and stuck with 1gb :)

later i was told that possibly it was due to the memories being different brands and when using DDR u have to use the same brands ..not sure if true ... but jus thought i'd let u know... am sure someone will correct me or agree 2mo morning :)

I remember reading about my msi board not being able to put in 3 ddr 3200. Supposedly you could put in 3 modules if you underclock it at ddr 2700. So technically, 2 of 3200 should have worked! GRrrrrr, my friend has 768 of ddr, therefore it has to be possible (1x256+1x512=768)!

Some A64 boards can be very fussy with RAM, especially mixed modules of different types, speeds and sizes. Try running it at DDR333 instead of 400. Or try 400 but with really low timings to start with. What ARE your RAM timings? They on auto or manual?

They are on auto. I'll tried the 333 speed and it didn't work. What are good mem timings, I am the noob of all noobs at memory timings. Right now they are at 2.5-x-x-x and 2-x-x-x. Both modules are the same after the 2's.

You can click the links to the modules which tell you the exact timings at the top of this thread. HUGE thanks to your help guys so far.

with ddr pc3200 is very important using a egual module of ram if the setting is 400 mhz. in my pc i have a single module of geil pc3200 512mb and is perfect.use max 512mb ram if your system is win98-me.syncronize your processor fsb with clock of the ram is better system for running fine.by :D :D :D

All be away from home for next few days, but when I get back on sunday I'll try it out. Just one question though, do I set the timings to 2.5-3-3-6 before I install the second module? (because I can't boot up to bios when I have both in :p )

THANKS for all your help guys!

Got home and manually set the timings. But didn't boot. Then played around putting ram at 333 and turning off turbo in the bios. And Finally switched the modules around and it booted :D Then set back all the features in the bios and now my computer is much faster than what it used to be at 256 :thumb:
