I recently added another 256MB of RAM to my system and ever since then Windows Xp has refused to recognise my DVD drive! It appears in the start-up and in the Bios fine, but nothing in Windows at all!

Now this has happened before, I don’t understand why but it just one day lost the drive!, I solved it last time by re-installing everything, which is not an option this time round. Is there some kind of command I need to add in the registry or something? What can I do? I have tried the drive in another machine and its fine, and I have tried other drives in the problem PC too, nothing was recognised. I have even tried alternating the IDE cables to see if there was something wrong with that, issue was not solved.

Not cables are loose, yes it IS turned on! And Yes I did try removing the RAM but as I had thought this did not help anything.

I also tried: mobo bios update, mobo driver update and miniport IDE updates, to no effect. I have also NOT installed any burning software at all either.

    Please help me :waah:

:sigh: I am having the same problem on a clients computer and I hope there is a way to fix it without having to format the hard drive and reload everything from scratch :sigh:

check if its in device manager, if not then use the add hardware wizard in the control panel. if it is in device manager, uninstall it then do the add hardware wizard.

:sigh: The device manager lists the drive but it has a Yellow circle with a Black one of these ! and when I double click on it to see the properties it states this "Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41). I also checked the BIOS Setup and its listed there as well. :sigh:
