i am currently using logitech x-530 speakers, and get complaints from the lads i game with as they set off the mic on ts, at relatively low volumes, bass is the biggest problem, as even though the sub is turned down, bass response is good

+1 for the x-530's great set of speakers and you can pick them up quite cheap second hand (I got mine for £20 off here.)

I'd go with the Logitech Z5500 myself.

Totally depends on your budget, and how fussy you are about sound

For cheap(ish), the Logitech X-530 or X-540 sets are both decent for the money. (if you can get them for £20 its a steal)

Next (big) step up are the Logitech Z-5500 at around £250. These are generally agreed to be the king of 5.1 computer speakers, and assuming you're not used to HiFi sound, will sound very good. I wouldn't call them absolutely amazing... but then it all depends on what your comparing them too.

If your fussy about sound, 5.1 might not be the way to go, but for gaming it is good :)

Also remember that either you place the speakers properly around the room or you're just wasting your money on the center + rear speakers. It makes me sad to see people shell out money on Z-5500 and then be too shy to put the rear speakers where they belong.
