I'm looking for a good 802.11b/g/n (b/g is good but n is preferred) wireless adapter with a usb 2.0 interface. The adapter NEEDS to have the drivers in such a way that I can install them by simply having the adapter plugged into the computer (i.e. no driver cd, no online driver install). I've done some searching but I never found an adapter that actually explicitly said it could just plug-and-play, and I'm starting to wonder if such a device even exists.

    1. Windows XP mainly right now, but might be 7 soon. School is planning to switch.

    2. My boss wants me to see if I can find one because it would help him. I work for my school part-time supporting faculty computers.

Extra note: price is not an object unless it is >$100 (about £65)

    you arent gunna get one.

Vista and 7 would probly pick it up and install the drivers but XP doesnt have a chance.

carry extra USB stick around with drivers on ?

yeah, what adam says, vista/win 7 will probably pick it up, more likely if connected to a network already.

winxp doesn't normally contain drivers for wireless devices, so is unlikely to pick up the drivers.

also as adam said, use a usb flash drive, with the drivers for whatever wireless card you eventually get

Thanks for the help so far. I understand that vista/7 may have the drivers for some wireless devices preinstalled, so how would I check which devices have drivers available?
