i do relish in screaming to my computer to be quiet when i want to talk to somebody entering my room when my music is blasting... also, waking up and telling your computer to check the weather and play a nice tune...

Football manager would become allot more interesting to me.

Or shouting orders to units in starcraft. "No you moron I said repair the base not go sit inside the damn thing"

Aimed at iPhones and iPads... Not only will the tubes be full of people having mobile phone conversations, now we'll have to put up with people shouting literally at their phones. Great :p

    Also, Kinect, not Kinnect. XD

Alot of gamers only exercise is moving about in their chair smashing the keyboard. If they only have to talk they'll just mesh into the furniture....

Mind you shouting would stop you be able to stuff your face at the same time.

Heh, your player's motivation could be linked to the volume and tone of your screaming.

It's already been tried with Tom Clancy's Endwar, and while the technology was somewhat successful, it didn't really work because the vocabulary it recognised was very limited. Added to which the gameplay was so watered down that the voice recognition ended up only really being a gimmick...

If I gave voice orders to game characters they would soon become demoralized because of the sheer amount of abuse i'd give them. Then i'd get shouted at for all the swearing coming from my room. Must remember to not shout when wearing headphones.

Yes, but Endwar worked in a similar way - it didn't recognise words as such, just the general sounds of those words - which is why the vocabulary was so limited, as the words had to be sufficiently phonetically different for the engine to recognise them.

What worries me is that it'll be used as a gimmick in the place of real gameplay (a bit like Endwar used it to hide the fact that most of the RTS elements were stripped away)...

Looks like fun, could be good for social gaming in the way the Wii is now.

Ha, that's what I thought too. I read "Instead, it's geared towards creating games where more abstract sounds are used to control the on-screen action." and "This would potentially enable the technology to be used with Microsoft’s Kinnect controller, opening up the possibility of games that can be controlled by both sound and motion."

First thought: Pr0n, second thought was kinect on the pc and pornowall, but I heard that's already patented
