Hi Guys im fairly new to all the building a pc thing, just started off and got myself a PNY 1GB GeForce GTS450, however to my surprise PNY actually put the wrong product in the box and I got a 1GB GTX550, have they got the worst part of the bargin or have I ? I understand that the GTX550 is more expensive? as I only paid £109 for the GTS450. PS. Runs AoE3 like theres no tomorrow on full settings
went to fry's once to grab a replacement gpu for a client...8800 gtx...saw one with a reduced price sticker of $175...thought about asking a rep why it was so cheap, but decided against it...checked out...got home and put it in, ran fine...stress tested fine...receipt showed 8800 gtx, so no issue there...checked the sticker once more and it was for a gts 320...dunno how or why...but when the rma came in, i made a few extra dollars on ebay instead of taking it back to fry's...
guys just found a note in the bottom of the box, stating from PNY "congratulations dear customer,we are pleased to annouce that your product has been upgraded, we dohope this product suits your needs" so it was like a lottery thing they must do, this is brilliant as Im probably the unluckiest person on the planet haha.
On the topic of the GTX550, im currently running this on 250mb on board grphics, a 400w PSU, 4GB ram and a AMD sempron 2.8HGz, Im new to building up computers and fairly inexperienced but is the PSU enough to extract full potential for this card? I seem to be running AoE III maxed and smoothly but what about other games such as DiRT III or even dare I say it Battlefield?
I would send the note back saying "no no it does not and your so distressed you want a 580 as compensation or your be contacting your lawyer" Good bonus thought...
Thanks guys, I have one question though, as I said im not highly familar with all the tech speak but is it correct to assume I cant SLI with another GTX 550 because my motherboard only has one of those big PCIe slots I think its x16 or something, if so which card would be best suited to SLI with the 550?
Thats a better story than the one time I went to a local supermarket, put several items including a bottle of vodka in a basket, got to the check out, had everything scanned except the vodka (they even took the security tags off of it) and I walked out with it in a bag but didnt pay a penny for it xD I know it's technicaly stealing but hell if the guy had scanned it in the first place I was going to pay for it lol
I was going to benchmark this card with just cause 2 demo, are there any risks to benchmarking? is it the same as overclocking, if so I understand o/clocking can be very risky.
Not really. (source: scan.co.uk) The intended purchase would have been a bit too much though considering he paid almost the price of a gtx550. Angel OD makes a good point though.
