heh, the bluetooth ones are pretty cool, just standing there talking on the phone with a cord just hanging down. you'd get some strange looks.

i have just checked a phone handset we have and there are two wires connecting it to the phone unit that plugs into the wall, so i would assume it is as simple as cutting off the handset and attaching a 2.5mm jack (49p from maplin) the correct way around whack a bit of heatshrink around it and you're off

    heh heh 69 dude

Beware, my experience is only with phones in North America, my advice may not be pertinent to all phone systems.

Inside a phone headset (the part that plugs into the rest of the phone) there are usually 4 wires, 2 for the speaker and 2 for the microphone. The wire that plugs the phone into the wall has only 2 wires that are connected to anything (sometimes the cord has 4 wires but it only uses 2). To connect a phone handset you your cell, the simplest way would be to get a phone handset from a regular phone, and get a headset for your cell phone. Open up both and find the wires going to the speaker and microphone in your headset and connect those to the wires going to the speaker and microphone in you handset. There might be only 3 wires instead of 4 in your cell phone headset, this means that there is a common wire for boath the speaker and microphone.

I don’t know if there would be any problems with impedance matching on the speaker and the microphone (maybe someone else might know) but it would be caused by the cell phone wanting to use a different kind of microphone and speaker than the regular phone uses.

You can’t attach the entire phone unit to the cell phone because it is designed to work entirely differently; it has a dtmf encoder and some sort of amplifier plus circuitry to handle the microphone and speaker. If you attached the entire regular phone to your cell phone, it most likely wouldn’t work at all and it might try to pull enough current from your cell phone that it could break it (the cell phone).

how about taking apart a bluetooth headset and fitting it to an old phone. you wouldnt need th cable hanging out the phone then.

    just a thought

That would be realy cool if someone could do that, probably would not be too dificult either. Although people might think you are a bit crazy if they see you talking into an old phone while walking down the street. :hehe:

yes which means it should be in the thread to request guides, or modding thread. not mod guides as mod guides is for that, guides. not requests
