Hi fellas, jus wondrin how you recommend going about polishing plexiglass. Its just that ive managed to scratch a piece that i am going to need to use. Cheers
Depends on how deep the scratch it, if it's shallow then a polishing mop and some perspex polish or cutting compound would do the trick. A flame carfully applied might work, but you would have to be carefull not to create stress fractures from the heating. I would only recommend flame polishing on edges and small pieces, it tends to create problems in larger sheets. If the scratch is deeper then some sanding is requires, start off with 400-600 grit wet'n'dry working just where the scratch is, progress up to 1000 then 1200 or 2000 grit sanding a larger area then before and to finish apply a polishing or cutting compound and a polishing wheel or mop. See my sig for polshing aluminum, it's a similar process. Using the above process will probably create an optical abberation in the plexi if it's clear. If it's opaque then it won't be so noticable, to minimise the abberations work the sanding over as large as area as possible. Hope this helps, Jimbo
Thanks for the advice. I think that i should be able to sand the whole piece to avoid the aberrations as its quite small, but thanks for the heads up on that.

get some scrap peices first to test on... you dont wanna make a small scratch worse by picking at it . So do some tests so you know waht the resutls would be like, so you dont ruin everything.
