as posted over in my LOTR themed mod project log, i'm at the point where i'm ready to put letters on the keyboard, should I use handwritten tengwar (shown here practicing on another keyboard) or the premade white rub-on lettering? I'm unsure of how steady my hands are to do all the keyboard in tengwar, but I really want it to look good.... j00 decide!!!!
but will it work on black? I'd be getting the clear decal paper and printing with a standard epson inkjet. the whole basis of CMYK printing is that it starts with a white background and adds color from there. If it's starting on clear (going onto black) then it'll be really dark and won't look good. That and i don't feel like spending $10-20 for the kit and fixative and paper (including software i won't use cause i'm in linux) on something that's that much of an unknown. but thanks for the response, I may do that eventually but the money just isn't there right now.
looks like i have to do tengwar now i've been practicing, there's a new post in my project log here: http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?p=621413#post621413 if it affects anyone's votes
no offence but the whole lord of the rings thing is so geeky, but thats just my oppinion if anyone wants it
well thanks to all (most?) for voting/replying, i guess i'll try my hand at the tengwar this afternoon after work
Where do you get the white rub on letterings? I've been looking for those for a freaking year and haven't ever found them locally, and don't know what to search for on the intarweb!!
office depot didn't have them so i went to hobby lobby. the particular ones i got (if it helps with googling) are made by Chartpak Alpha Graphics and are part number AG13G 'SM Alphabet WHT' upc 0 14173 29230 8 also try searching on just AG13 or other numbers to find other variations. these were the only white ones they had and i'm darn lucky they are small enough. They had gold letters that were bigger and black ones in all sizes. Free popsicle stick included with the lettering hope that's enough info
I remeber a while ago I saw a guy who made custom white decals in photoshop for his black keybaord. If I remeber correctly, he took white ink for stmamps and whatnot and used an inkjet refill kit (those syringe type kits) and filled the black ink catigde (after thoroughly cleaning it). Think you could do something like that with gold ink?
possibly, but i have an epson printer, and the heads don't change with the cartriges. So i don't wanna screw up my printer heads trying nonstandard inks. it is a good idea though, i hadn't thought of that. on another note, in an effort to make the tip of my gold pen smaller to fit better on the keys, i have officially mangled it so that it's now more of a sharpie tip than it is calligraphy. i don't know if i can kep messing with it to get it back to a chisel tip, so it might be the white letters for now but possible gold lettering later.
i bit the bullet and started the lettering, see here: http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?p=622564#post622564
ooh i like that idea, could just get some crazy colours of ink and refill and print all sorts of keeeerrraaaaaaazy things. and im soon to have 6 empty cartridges as well sweet OT: where in IL are you morphine? native Chicagoan meself (well close enough anyway). w00t for IL
