Networks Port Forwarding

    so i was trying to play Minecraft with a couple of the guys on here

    but the guy i am connecting to is using a non standard port. so i added the rule to the router to open the port ( in this case 25566 ) and the rule appears in the list.

    however i still cannot connect, and when using a port checker, the port is listed as 'closed' despite the rule in the router

    any ideas ?

    What model of router is it? Have you opened the port in your software firewall (AVG/McAfee etc)

    Does the router distinguish between UDP and TCP, UDP being what's normally used for port checking and games (afaik).
