After last year's heat She Who Rules wants an air conditioner before I spend any more money on computer stuff; anybody got any recommendations? Portable, 8,000-10,000BTU for cooling off the bedroom before we retire. I've been looking at Delonghi NF170 and Amcor 10000. Best price I've come across so far is Tesco but they're out of stock. Sod the planet, I want to upgrade my PC.
Homebase is good, I think my mum has a 9k unit in her classroom, works very well in a room full of small smelly kids.
hahaha, when I read 'retire' I thought 'whoa I didn't realise cp was that old' No idea about air conditioning though, sorry...
i can recommend a brand, Daikin. we have a Daikin system in our flat in athens, it rocks. then again i am fairly sure they are expensive - they are meant to to be the best around.
Cheers for reminding me. I'm going to get one soon before the heat kicks in again. (though my room temperature hit 35C last week)
Yeah, now I'm regretting putting my computer on the window sill. >_> The heat last year was fairly bad, I find it hard to sleep when it's that warm. Thankfully I've found something better than an airconditioner - a girlfriend who is allways a cold.
Yeah, I've been looking into them too and having done the calculations of this room for the heat generation (things like LxWxH of window x 400 if south facing etc) and we would need atleast a 14k btu aircon. It will be this years purchase as the "air cooler" which we have that is evaporative SUCKS. It just increases the humidity which is fine in the morning but by the evening its like a tropical jungle in here
they bought us these water chillers at work since our shop doesnt have a/c...it has a tank at the bottom and it drips water over this inch thick carboard. the air passes through the cardboard and out the box..i usually add about 5 bags of ice a day to keep it feelin real good
I wouldn't recommend Delonghi. My parents had a couple of their floor heaters and they aren't that great. One of them went out already.
Really? I have a delonghi and can't speak highly enough of it. Hope the heat you're all talking about doesn't happen in June. I'm really picking the wrong time of year for the UK I think. I hate summer.
Yeah, another thanks for the reminder. After last years 6 months of horrific heat I'm determined to pick up a unit this year. Anyone have any suggestions for how cheap not to go under?
An Australian who hates summer... Seriously though, British "summer" doesn't get past about 30'C, it's just that our whole culture loves to moan about the weather. There are loads of countries around the world with much hotter summers and much colder winters, and they don't die off when it gets a bit warm, unlike we do. On a not-unrelated subject, we have a DeLonghi heater at home (electric radiator job), and it's lasted well over 10 years without a single fault or hiccup, and it still heats like it's made of lava.
Yeah but Krikkit, we just ain't used to the heat. I'm in the far north of Scotland, so perhaps even more acclimatised to mild weather than most, but for me anything above 20C is too hot. I know there are places in the world where it's over 20C pretty much all day every day, but then, people from there would probably find where I live with its 5-15C days freezing.
We need a computer game to help them understand our weather before they get here, maybe one they could play on their phone on the flight. Oh, sorry wrong thread!
Look at New York, in winter it dips well below freezing, even colder than Scotland, in summer it gets to like 40'C, and yet they don't moan - alright average temps might be higher than here, but the range of temperatures is a lot more. I'm not saying that I don't moan I'm too hot when it gets to more than like 22'C, but I'm saying that it's daft.
you're a geek so BUILD ONE edit: i have to wonder where these portable air conditioning units dissipate their heat to.
