I've heard for ages that ebay is riddled with scammers and unsavoury characters but until day I'd never actually seen one for myself. I recently bought an item off some bloke in china, my dad likes fancy oriental art, here's the link:

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....MEWN:IT&viewitem=&item=160060781166&rd=1&rd=1

It's a very nice puzzle ball indeed, near the bottom of the page he states that shipping is £33 which I think it's a bit naughty, people shouldn't sell items at a loss only to make it back on shipping! However when I went to pay for it I looked over the details and found this:

For a start the seller has marked the item as having being paid for, checking my paypal shows i've not sent ANY cash to this guy, secondly the postage is marked at £135!!!!! Is this a scam?

I know people round here that put the shipping at their minimum price and then just have a standard auction, ensures they don't loose money

I'm guessing that the person is just having trouble with their check-out configuration. I would try to contact them as someone else also mentioned.

Yeah I agree with the above comments, so far the only thing you have to lose is a bad comment, so I would email the guy for reasurance and if you still do not feel comfortable then just walk away, and say something like, "I will leave you positive feedback, can you do the same for me, or feel free to to leave neutral, thanks."

If it doesn't feel right, there's usually a reason. I'd avoid.

Yeah it defo doesn't feel right! Another thing that got me was if you look at the guys other customers they've only bought a few items themselves. And if you look who THEIR customers were its the same guy who's selling me this ball. Almost if they're buying things to bump up there number thing that sells you how many purchases they've made, in order to look more reputable!

Thing is though my mum's really set on getting it and to be honest it'd make the perfect present for my dad, I just want to make sure my cynicism isn't getting in the way :)

The plan is, i'm gonna wait a few days since the guy has marked the item has paid for i'm hoping he'll send it without me paying :p if he sends me an email about it then send an email to ebay and see what they make of it. I'll keep ya posted.

If its coming from china what you need to know is the weight. Anything of about 4KG+ is ATLEAST £25 shipping via EMS. What you then have to take into account is that seller is also probably using the postage to cover his ebay and paypal fees.
http://app1.hongkongpost.com/calc/eng/overseas/step1.php is a pretty good shipping indicator ;)
Don't forget by the time it gets here its likley you will have to stick a £13 handling charge on it then assume 22% in VAT + Customs charges.

I recently bought airsoft stuff from HK and generally postage is very expensive but the low cost of the good can frequently offset this and even after import tax it can still be cheaper.

::edit:: Just seen the other image you posted (silly me, I didn't read the post correctly) £125 is far too much. Definatley incorrect pricing there/something fishy.
