I wanted to do a POTM shot for once, so I tried to take one for the Technology theme. I tried to photograph the refracted light from a DVD, and I think it looks alright but I want some opinions.

These photos are untouched and uncropped, straight from the camera and resized to 640x480 on Photobucket.

Thoughts? I'm not sure if its POTM material.

Good eye, I can shop that out in a second though. My lens setup also has a tiny spot in it somewhere that I've been unable to find and clean off, it doesn't show up in any of these pictures though.

I am personally a fan of #1. It looks like a sky. I would like #2 better if it had the same bright white in the spindle hole as the first and third do, but the dingy colour doesn't do it for me.

#3 is far too blurry, it looks like either the camera or you did not find focus (whichever one is unimportant).

As for a PotM idea, I like it - though I fear it may be a little too "simple" of a design concept. That doesn't stop it from being a well-composed shot!

    Thanks.

I agree it is very simple, I find it quite similar to flower shooting. #3 the focus is more on the blue area, which is difficult to tell that its actually in focus, and a tiny bit of the clear section. The colour is strange though, I may have had my lamp on a low setting by accident (the high setting makes things beneath it quite hot) and #2 could certainly use some cropping, I just really liked the mix of green, blue and yellow that the light created.

I think I will enter #1 just for the heck of it. Might as well give it a shot. Ill try playing with some settings on it first though.

EDIT* forget it, it closes in like 2 hours and I don't have a POTM site account.
