Also too add, would using an external drive to boot from be any slower or faster than say an IDE based drive?

external drives via USB will indeed be slower as they will only transfer data aty the speed of USB (which isnt a heck of a lot) but e-sata should boot just as quick as a standard sata drive in theory

usb would be slower, but e-sata is just sata+power so it would make no difference, go for it.

Question is, will your BIOS allow booting from e-sata?

Just to clarify. Using an e-sata drive would be near enough just as fast as in internal one? And bootable?

SoO its possible to boot from

Now I'm getting excited. If its possible to boot from e-SATA or USB external drive, then its possible to boot from an slipstreamed copy of O/S from a USB Flash Drive?
