Ive been designing a custom fan gaurd in sketchup for awhile now and ive been pondering if itd be actually possible to make/machine it, as it is a pretty complex design.

    see pics:

a nice view of the top

as we turn we get a nice view of it in 3d :eeek:

and here we have the bottom, everyone lovesssssss the bottom :naughty:

if its actually possible to make im gonna make a few others for the computer im making ( this ones built for an intake 80 mm fan as my comp is gonna be shrouded and i dont want it taking in the heat coming off my comp and just take in the nice coooooool air from outside my comp ) the the other fans will be designed differently to fit where there placed and depending on whether or not there intake/output.

im also wondering if it will preform as well as it looks, as this is my first time "designing" a project to scale and so it looks decent

this might sound abit stupid but from the pic their doesnt seem to be any holes for the air to travel through.

It's possible to make anything, you just need the right tools.
If you could get a shop to make a mold for you from your design it would be possible and pretty easy. Not sure how much that would cost though.

As for working well I couldn't say. Generally when I check airflow I take a blank tape and cut small peices of tape and place them in certain spots to see the airflow. Of course you'll need a working model for this...

    Good luck :thumb:

the outer edges are gonna be enclosed ( im gonna find a way to seal the bottom after its screwed to the case, ive gotta search around tho :thumb: ) as to ensure a nice seal

the air comes in from the outside of the case through the hole in the lengthy part and goes right in through the fan, and the channels are for airflow/looks (its not gonna be a solid piece)

i had a movie to go along with the pics for better clarity of it but my "free" upload service didnt like the format :nono:

a mold :duh: BRILLIANT !!!

i knew of the method, but it didnt cross my mind at all :hehe:

you just alleviated alot of my worries

thanx for the help !! :dremel:

*edit* heres a pic with wat im reffering to ^

Put a tornado behind it, and you got something that could suck small animals through it.

thats kool, but its not really needed ( unless you/ the rest of the forums would like a 3d look at it , then itd be no problem :thumb: )

heres an updated look of it after i fixxed up the intake for mounting purposes and to ensure a better seal

*edit* i think i use sketchup a little too much... i keep looking for the seethrough textures button and prime myself to look around the pictures of the models with my mousewheel :hehe: :hehe:

    will do :)

but alas im hard at work making some dual intakes for a set of fans for the front intake and an exhaust for the blowholes.

Im stuck between dual stealths and tornados. The stealths obviously run quieter and flow with the theme of my case [ the quieter part ] but the tornados push out ALOT more cfm, suggestions/comments with better choices for fans would be appreciated.

*edit* would anyone happen to know the placement dimensions of the fittings on the black ice extreme 2 radiator ?
