Only one article I can honestly say I wish there was up here and that is how to choose the proper controller card for an LCD from a laptop. Its very confusing for those of us who are more on the less laptop side. I am almost pure desktop pcs and man laptops just mess with my head to learn about since you cant buy a bunch of parts and make it work. It all works to be part of the same unit.

Working on PCs all you likely need is 6-32 and M3.
Drill for 6-32 is #36 and tap is, well 6-32. Clearance holes are drill 25 to 27. For M3 the drill is 2.5mm and the clearance holes are 3.2 to 3.7mm (I guess you know the tap).

If you want to know more google for "tap clearance M3" and you will find sites like. http://ocw.mit.edu/NR/rdonlyres/Mec...91-211B-4417-9AD3-667D3248B676/0/holesize.pdf or http://www.nmri.go.jp/eng/khirata/metalwork/basic/bolt/index_e.html .

    Last advice(s):
Get a full face shield, not just some stupid goggles for eye protection. A broken tap up you nose can do nearly as much damage as in your eye.
Get cutting oil. Salad or WD-40 oil won't keep the tap from binding.
Get a tap holder with a nice, long handle and put force on both ends of the handle as you tap, so there is no sideways force on the tap.

My cuts into acrylic never worked out, except for simple straight cuts witha circular saw. Try these people, they will cut it cheaper and tidier than you ever will be able to do it: http://www.pololu.com/laser_cutting.html

You still have to do the tapping (the laser can cut the hole for it) or design your case so you can use nuts. A hot nut embeds itself nicely into acrylic if you have a cold screw (with a washer) to pull it in.

    this

i know it's been done before, (hence the linkage) but a proper guide showing all the parts and accessories so everyone can do this and turn a one-off masterpiece to commonplace.

    ALL HAIL MEDIOCRITY!!!

This might have already been requested already but I didn't feel like I could go through each and every page of the thread.

ANyways, as title says I am wanting to install a relay for my Eheim 1048. I was unable to find out how to do it, in detail that is. :D

    Thanks if you can help.

thats not hard, just apply enough grease to cover the block but not enough to make it look like you raped the motherboard :D

then if you are using a fan/heatsink combo, attach the unit over it with the fan wires as close as possible to the connection point on the mobo

a guide to make book solid, like those james bond-y movies where something is hidden in a book. i want to use it for a case.

i googled for instructions for making a book into a block but just got books showing you how to do this. since the only book i plan on purchasing in the near future is the one i'll be destroying, i don't think it should be the one i'm using.

    Hi,

I did see people mention this on page 2, but i think a guide on bondo might be good... with some decent picture and advice, and perhaps a guide on fiberglass resin.. perhaps on the subject of repairing holes caused during a mod?!?!

    :D

    Thanks...

    Spraying

I am trying to paint aluminum, I have sanded it down with wet n dry and used spray filler to take out any dints, but I can't get the paint to shine properly, its dimpled. Am i using too much paint, the wrong paint?

I'm completely new to this so if someone does have some input you'll have to start from scratch. Thanks

    will
