http://www.powerbalance.com/ Placebo or does it have a real effect? My cousin is forced to train football (not handegg) with one of these....
even if it is a placebo, it still gets the results and what does it matter in that case I saw this recently and thought its BS
I think this is a lot like the Q-Link that a lot of "professional golfers and athletes" use. They are expensive jewellry with a lot of BS theory about the human bodys energy field on the box. Don't waste your time or money with these - the only way to become a better athlete with better balance, strength and energy is to train hard.
thread revival ! Someone repped me yesterday for my post in this thread and, after I remember what that stupid power balance POS was, I did a quick google search and found this http://news.discovery.com/human/power-balance-maker-admits-bands-are-worthless.html It's obviously no news to us that this thing was a scam all along but it feels good to see they were forced to admit it
I don't know if it's the same version, but one of my parts rep's sells these. He made stand feet shoulder width apart, I had to extend my arm out in front of me and rotate my upper body as far clockwise as I could. Taking note of the position my arm pointed to I was told to do it again with the power band on my arm. I got to exactly the same place. He then had me stand with my feet together and arms out to the sides. Pushing down on one arm I list balance very quickly, but when he did whilst I was wearing the power band it tool a lot more effort on his part to throw me off balance. My doubt over the second test was and still is, could your body have adjusted to the downward force applied to the arm and have counter acted it without any actual knowledge of doing it?
What I've heard they do is when you aren't wearing it they push down and away from your body, when you are they push down but towards you.
They apply slight upward pressure before pressing down which then makes you lose your balance. It's an old magician's hypnosis trick.
I lol'd the first time I saw one of these in a snowboarding shop and the sales assistant was convinced it worked. A hologram on a piece of rubber that interacts with your body? yeah right. I lol'd twice as hard when I saw the England cricket team wearing them.
There have been plenty of studies showing the positive effects of placebos - which, quite frankly, is the only benefit you will get from these things - but did you know that studies have also shown that there can also be a positive reaction to taking a placebo even when you are told it is a placebo?? Now that really bakes my noodle...
