Does the power LED pins on the mobo supply 12v or 5v? I loaned out my meter and I can't remember! My mobo has 3 pins for the power led. 1 + 1 + 1 -
you can run it off either +. it depends what connector the case has, some use the 3 pins and run of the outer 2, and some use 2. why they could never just go for one or the other i dont know.
That's a useful snippet of info - I've only ever seen ones which use the outer 2, I always thought the middle one was a redundant pin.
The connector I have runs off the outer 2 but I might use the middle one also, depending on it's voltage. so answer me 2 more questions: what does iirc stand for? are they both 5v or is one 12v or what?
IIRC = If I Remember Correctly i will power up my spare pc and get the multi meter out for you. back in a few mins. Edit: my spare pc only has the 2pin for power led (its socket 939 aswell so even then or now they still can not decide which to use lol) i got a reading of 5.1V Edit2: i would believe them to both be the same as i have run the same led on both 3pin and 2 pin.
Thanks a ton teamtd11 That should explain what my xbox green LEDs were not wanting to work as I believe they run off of 12v each (you can see in my porject log) I hope this info is also useful to others as well. What 939 mobo do you have? The one this is going into is a ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe. I didn't think to check how many pins were on it, I was looking/testing on a Biostar 570i board.
If the power led header was 12v, there would be no need for me to find an alternate source. Since it is not 12v, I will use a different source possibly the fan header like you recommended. Finding a 12v was not the problem, I just wanted to actually use the power LED header if I was able to.
