    Chaps,

Just got my new motherboard and I was wanting to drop it in to my old case.

Only problem is the new mobo has a power connector on it I haven't seen before, and isn't a plug available on my power supply :(

Motherboards I have used before are the large connector and then the plug that goes next to the processor like this: [IMG]

But my new motherboard has an 8 pin connector like this:

Do I need a new power supply too? :( If so what make and brand should I be looking at?

    Thanks :)

Just don't be cheap about it, the PSU is the heart of your system. I prefer Corsair or Tagan personally.

Most modern PSUs have at least one of them. You can usually check on the box or on the manufacturer's website.

Look for PSU that are ATX12V v 2.2 or newer.
Corsair PSU are all using the latest ATX version power connection system.
The Antec Neo H1 and the Antec TruePower New
I don't know the models of other brands... but basically if it's like 2007-2008 product release it should be the latest ATX.

Advice it not correct strictly speaking, i would recomend a new PSU but you don't absolutly need one.
It will be fine with 4pin cpu conection.
Did the 8 pin socket next to cpu not come with a cap that can cover 4 of them?

yeah if your running something like a dual core you can sometimes get away with plugging in just 4 pins out of the 8- check your manual (rep you and good =])

Although I seriously doubt that your current PSU is a quality unit, I can +1 that it should work with just the 4-pin one.

What is your current PSU anyway? if it is a decent old one it may be OK, especially if you are running low powered components.

The connectors are EPS 12v and a 24pin ATX connector.

Bit-tech do have a lot of PSU reviews so have a look at them!
