    Hi guys
I am searching for a good power supply with 500 - 600 Watt.
Can u give me some inspirations, because i dont know too much about power supplys.
It should be not too expensive, but a good one.

I am hoping for answers :)

There are loads of good makes of PSU, Thermaltake, Tagan, Zalman, Seasonic, to name a few. Read reviews on them. Also the bigger and chunkier/heavier they are the better they will be as they will be able to work at capacity much better. Read what other customers think of PSUs on Dabs.com etc, as they have had the experience of using them.

    Hey mario,

Seasonic and Antec are both very good PSU makes that I'd highly reccomend. Unfortunately, a good PSU is normally an expensive one, and a cheap PSU is normally a bad one. It is very important that you don't just buy a cheap power supply though. While a good one may not improve your performance at all, it won't kill your other hardware or make your system crash like many bad ones will.

The upside is, you probably don't need a 500 or 600W power supply. Almost everyone thinks they need far more power then they actually do. The vast majority of off the shelf PC's won't ever use 300W, and even medium spec gaming machines aren't likely to use over 350-400W. If you list your hardware then we can give you an idea of what sorta thing to look at :)

    More questions:

    1) What do u think about it?

    2) Can i also put the power supply upside down in my computer?

    3) The backside of this supply i dont like. Will the supply be too warm if i put an aluminium plate behind it?

I'd avoid the liberty 400. Since you're in europe, try a seventeam or this

thx but i want a supply with cable management (pull out/in cables u (dont) need)
And it should be not too expensive, so i think the liberty would be the right one.
Should i buys it with 400 or with 500 Watt?

Ok, sorry, I forgot about this thread. Bbq.of.Doom - why reccomend against enermax because he's in Europe? You appear to be correct about the 500W thing - not sure whats sucking up power in that spec but something is using an odd quantity of power.

Mario, modular + good = most expensive. You just can't avoid it. You're basicly asking for the best PSU and adding that it can't be very expensive and that's not the easiest of remits. Things are gonna be expensive at that level. If you forget about modular cables things become a fair cheaper. I'd strongly consider it.

As for being able to put PSU's upside down etc. - not really. You put the PSU in your case in the way it was designed to be put in, unless you're modding the case a fair bit. It's too important to get the airflow it was designed to recieve. While alumininium is a good metal for absorbing heat, I would really think it a bad idea to have an upside down PSU(so its fan would be near useless) with a blocked air(meaning heat) exit. It's just asking for trouble.

Apoligies for being wrong on the estimated wattage neccesary, 4800's suck up more than I realised.

Should get away with 400w I'd say. Probably better to get the 500 to give room for upgrades if you wish in the future though :)
    420w Powerstream powered X2 @ 2.9 and 7900GT quite happily :)

i will buy the Enermax Liberty 500W.

Because of the modular cables and i dont want to have such molex-cables, where are 2 or 3 units on it.

I want a molex cable with only one unit on each cable :D

There are better options. Enermax is rather pricy for what you get. Good quality, but many other options can be had for much less.

They have a proven track record though, ever since the beginning of branded PSUs!

    Get an Antec 500Watt PSU.
I hear they have good PSU's and are fairly nice.

Else someone suggested a CorsairHX620 or something... though that is fairly expensive.

If you don't want money being spent on things you dont need, such as modular design, and nice cables etc.. then I'd recommend this .

It's just a solid, simple, no nonsense 500w supply. I've had one for 2 years now (non sli version), and it's been perfect. I've upgraded my rig twice now, and this supply is now in my wife's rig, and is still going strong despite being left on for 24 hours a day, and heavy use. It's quiet, reliable, runs cool, and the bottom fan seems really efficient at pulling air over the CPU with most motherboard layouts.

I always recommend Enermax if fancy cabling is not a requirement.

^^^ I agree with that choice. Very nice power supply. My friend has one in an X2 3800+ system with 2 6800u's, and it's rock solid. Pretty quiet too.
