I know a few of you have just purchased PowerBooks, so this will be of interest: https://depot.info.apple.com/batteryexchange/index.html?lang=en Check your batteries! If you find you have one that's affected by the recall, get in touch with Apple via the form on the link above. This has been a Public Service announcement, In association with GOO and the Toast Marketing Board. That is all...
Yes, this is another, different recall. This is for PB's manufactured from Oct. last year through to May this year.
Hmm mine appears to be in the range.... but it's not showing any signs of over heating... all batts get hot while charging anyway... Is it really worth me sending it in?
Is it worth the risk? 6 have blown up sure the odds are in your favour. You'll get a new battery too which is a bonus
If you don't mind the risk of battery acid all over your burned-from-overheating leg, then it's certainly not worth your time sending it in.
Tad overboard Firehed.... what I mean is... if only 6 out of god knows how many devices have been sold... have gone burny.... then there's little chance mine would be the 7th... after all it's a voulentary recall... plus.. they're recalling all of the batts made by the same company probably just to be sure... plus... there's isn't any acid in these batteries you fish.
meh whatever, just making a point that there's no sense taking a risk. And you get a fresh battery out of the deal so you may up your battery life a bit.
Hi ! I've got a 12" powerbook, bought in ... I dunno .. March/April. The model number is A1079. So that checks out. But I'm confused with the serial numbers. The site says 12-inch PowerBook G4 A1079 3X446 – 3X510 Mine says *3K50438GRJMB So its within 446-510 But its K instead of X. Do they mean X = "whatever" or X = Letter X Because the picture telling where to look , gives an example with 3X446. So it would seem x = letter x. Thank you! Worried L.
Personally I would give them a call just to double check, especially after seeing what RTT posted (click me and be afraid)
