Does anyone have any experience of PowerShell? I had never heard of it until I saw it mentioned in a preview of Windows 7, then I found out it's freely available for XP and Vista too.. I'm not involved in IT professionally, or even much into networking etc. but it looks like it could be a powerful alternative to cmd and batch files when working with lots of files, without resorting to Linux. I had always thought a scriptable command prompt was a major advantage of Unix OSes, and while it's not an area that's ever been of much importance to me, I distinctly remember feeling limited by DOS-style batch files in the past when trying to do some repetitive tasks on lots of files for game mods.. Does anyone now how, and how-well it integrates with Windows' UI? Before I go installing it to try it out, does having it installed sap performance or require an extra running process?
I had a brief look after finding it mentioned at Lifehacker, but I've no current need for anything more complex than .bat commands can do. Couple of links, http://www.scriptinganswers.com/forum2/default.asp?C=8 http://thepowershellguy.com/blogs/posh/default.aspx
Sweet, thanks! It'll make a nice diversion sometime, I think. I can kinda see myself getting bogged down in learning PowerShell and trying stuff out for fun instead of doing anything practical with it, though.
