Just ordered the parts for a new rig, and wondered if any bit staff can give any advice about the build before I start? Normally I wouldnt ask, as I'm an old hand at system building, but it's important I get it up and running ASAP because my old rig has finally given up the ghost. So, anything to avoid those scratchy head moments while I mess around swapping ram into different slots and messing with BIOS settings would be greatly appreciated.

    Asus P6T deluxe
    i7 920
    3x 2Gb Cosair C8 Dominator
    XFX GTX295
    a couple of 1Tb Spinpoint F1s
    Vista 64bit

    Opticals as my sig.

No great rush to OC... just need it built ASAP. Messing can come later... when Ive met work deadlines!

Cheers guys.. like I said, I need it up and running by Thursday or I'm screwed

Ok... I'll assume the lack of reply means that there's nothing special I need to know, and it's a pretty straightforward build.

I'm going in! wish me luck.

Any 1333-1600 Memory will do you tbh. Whatever fits your budget.

XFX warranty in the UK is only 2 years. BFG and EVGA are 10.

Was going to mention a decent cpu cooler, but I guess you'll sort out a new top for your tdx or new blocks in general once you have all your deadlines sorted :)

    Ok... it's alive.

Just installing stuff as I type this, and trandferring files over from my old drives. Will take a while.

I've not even bothered OCing yet... still all on default settings, but so far so good.

Thanks. All helpful. I was really just wondering if anyone had found any idiosyncracies with this gear more than anything, and as I didnt have a fully functioning machine I couldn't really spend time searching. As it happened, it was a very easy build.

tbh... I'll not have this gear that long to make any difference. I tend to upgrade every 3 years max anyway, so a 10yr warranty would be wasted on me. My last card was a XFX and it's been flawless, so better the devil you know and all that :)

I'll be running on air for a while I think, as I need to rethink how I will watercool. The PC-71 was annoying me with it's bulk, so I've got a new case - a Lian Li PCA6010. Far less space for water, but I enjoy a challenge :)

A new HSF is on the cards though.

Well.. it may very well be for sale... with a BIXIII rad installed :) I had an accident with the window when moving it today though.,... it's cracked... but the case itself is still cool (no pun intended). I've had to remove the alloy optical drive covers tho, as the 6010 didn't come with any.

Will report more when I've got all my software installed, and caught up with work.
