Harder to access accidentally? or simply easier to find? This won't clean up the adult entertainment industry online, I'd be willing to bet there are a lot of adult production companies that would actually want to avoid the .xxx association with their business. I'm interested to see how this pans out...through independent 3rd party research of course....

I once did a presentation about the programming language Python at work. At the end, one of the questions was "what's the documentation like?" So I merrily typed "python.com" into Firefox, only to find that it was a pron site, and the language is based at python.org. Luckily the audience found it funny rather than appalling...

I think it's about damn time the .xxx domain came about. Too many prudes trying to police the internets so porn doesn't get on it, which is like commanding the tide not to come in. Porn will happen whether people want it to or not.
IIRC prostitution is one of the world's oldest professions and porn has been doing the rounds since before the intenet became the intenet.
this makes it easier to spot and block porn sites, which makes it easier for parental control to be used, and harder for people to lie about their porn habits at work or on govenment/work issued PCs/laptops.

From the main title on website main page:

    '... get your pron-themed...'

Ooops. Were you a little distracted?

Sounds like a good idea. Hopefully those explicit sites see it as an advertising boon, a way to be found easier by the user, and they can also be contained far easier than today, simply block the domain .xxx from the comp you don't want to allow that kind of thing on.

Err, no. 'porn' became 'pron'; the story goes than the l33t community adopted the 'pron' word from the mistyped 'porn' - the same as 'teh'.

I thought people used it so it wouldn't get blocked by or set off web filters...

You say that, but I remember looking for a help website for overweight policemen once: GreatBigBobbies.com - I tell you what, one wrong keystroke and it all went sour... :)

Seriously, I do remember someone at work once (many years ago) trying to see if Crystal Palace had started a website - he got a horrible shock! Followed by never-ending pop-up screens he couldn't shut down...

Do the websites have to host pronograpic material?

I'd be vaguely amused by having my own .xxx website for non xxx content and i'm SURE XFX want a .xxx website too.....

I don't think this will work, more likely to have legitimate businesses buying out .xxx domains so that no one can make a porn site with their company name than have it all shift over from the dot coms.

I accidentally typed .com instead of .co.nz when I was trying to enter a competition for butch petfood once. Accidents do happen! They can be unpleasant.

I don't see a benefit. Why would a company use this over .com?
Easier to find? comeon, it's not the phone book
Easier to block? yeah that's just what you DON'T want.
    No real benefit, so meh.
