Guys, l've been asked to look at a Compaq Presario V5000 that has a screen fault.

The screen is a series of lines and is unreadable. l've got an external monitor plugged into the side of it with a perfect picture...
The lines on the screen change in colour to the colour that l see on my external monitor but that's as good as it gets..

ls it worth opening the thing up and ( if so) what should l look out for

    Many thanks

You could check the cable going from the motherboard to the screen, it's not unusual for them to get damaged and show symptoms like the ones you described. There is a chance that it's a fault with the screen itself, and that usually means replacement, usually not worth the money TBH.

eBay has a replacement if you decide it needs it, but it's hard to tell.

good shout thomson, especially if the laptop has been transported and maybe a had a small knock, could just loosen the connection slighty resulting in what you described. but then again i wonder if its the screen that is just knackered, sounds like its not drawing properlly, but that could be down to a loose connection.
